Abstract

Abstract. The utilization of cast iron chips as an alternative cheaper raw material in the powder metallurgy industry is currently undergoing development to produce useful products. The present work is concerned with the technology and economy of such as alternative powder processing technique. The mechanical properties of grey cast iron are primarily determined by the proportion of included graphite in the metallic matrix in which the graphite also affects the properties of powdered cast iron chips. The influences of the processing technique on the powder characteristics such as the shape, the size, the loose graphite as well as the subsequent route of compacting and sintering are described. In sintering, the effects of the protective atmosphere used on the properties of sintered compact are discussed. Sari.

Abstract

Sari. Abstract. Hall-Petch relation, σt = σi + KD-1/2, is re-examined and tested to a coarse grain aluminum alloy with grain size between 0.069 mm and 0.404 mm. The result indicates that the theoretical and experimental value of K match each other closely, i.e. Kth = 0.0514 and Kexp = 0.052. 0n the other hand the experimental value of the exponent is -1.86 instead of -0.5. The experimental relation between hardness number and strength matches reasonably well to the theoretical analysis, which is linear. The experimental value of the linearity constant is Cexp = 0.335 and the theoretical constant is Cth= 0.35 ÷ 0.39, therefore this aluminum alloy the relation is σt = 0.335 BHN. The grain size difference of the specimen was obtained by strain-annealed method by varying the annealing temperature at constant strain and annealing time.

Abstract

Abstract. Industrial waste effluents, particularly from chemical industries, causes pollution. Like other chemical industries, the Letjes Paper Mill (Probolinggo), produce approximately 800 cubic meters of waste effluents per hour, which is directly discharge into the immediate surroundings without any treatment beforehand. The present study was, therefore, undertaken to determine the effects of continous dischargal of the Letjes Paper Mill waste effluents on soil microflora and rice plants. Sari.
