Abstract

In the future, wireless access system will operate in high data rate transmission and high mobility environment, to support private and public access. For such an environment, it is necessary to develop a system that has a higher spectrum efficiency and is able to mitigate selective fading problems. A novel multiple-output differential unitary space-time frequency (DUSTF) coding scheme is proposed to overcome those problems. The implementation of this inner coding scheme is unified with MIMO system, so that the scheme has a good spectrum efficiency. The differential space-time modulation in this proposed scheme is intended to operate in a non-coherent channel transmission scheme and to guarantee the system performance. In order to combat the selective fading problems, the multi-carrier space frequency scheme is utilized in the proposed scheme. In general, simulation result shows that the MIMO wireless system with the multiple-output DUSTF coding scheme in a non-coherent channel transmission scheme provides a good system performance. The proposed scheme can outperforms other previously published inner coding scheme for high mobility and high SNR. The system also achieves a good channel capacity.

Abstract

Texture can be defined as a local statistical pattern of texture primitives in observer's domain of interest. Texture classification aims to assign texture labels to unknown textures, according to training samples and classification rules. Association rules have been used in various applications during the past decades. Association rules capture both structural and statistical information, and automatically identify the structures that occur most frequently and relationships that have significant discriminative power. So, association rules can be adapted to capture frequently occurring local structures in textures. This paper describes the usage of association rules for texture classification problem. The performed experimental studies show the effectiveness of the association rules. The overall success rate is about 98%.

Abstract

The aim of this research is to investigate the performance of Welch based de-noising technique for a set of chirp signals corrupted by Gaussian noises. In telecommunications, chirp signals are widely studied, particularly for sonar, radar and spread spectrum applications. However, unlike conventional signals, chirp signals are typical of time varying frequency signals. It sweeps linearly from a low to a high frequency. It is in fact a signal in which its frequency increases or decreases with time. Results indicate that Welch based de-noising technique has effectively inhibited the noise. Nevertheless, this method works satisfactory only below its threshold point. Beyond this limit, the signal-to-noise ratio of the desired signal is not acceptable. Figuratively, radar can only detect the presence of the aircraft only at a certain limited distance only. As soon as the aircraft moves further apart, the transmitted signal becomes substantially weaker before the noise can completely overwhelm it. It turns out that the presence of the aircraft is no longer perceptible.

Abstract

In this project, third generation (3G) technologies research had been carried out to design and optimization conditions for 3G network. The 3G wireless mobile communication networks are growing at an ever faster rate, and this is likely to continue in the foreseeable future. Some services such as e-mail, web browsing etc allow the transition of the network from circuit switched to packet switched operation, resulting in increased overall network performance. Higher reliability, better coverage and services, higher capacity, mobility management, and wireless multimedia are all parts of the network performance. Throughput and spectral efficiency are fundamental parameters in capacity planning for 3G cellular network deployments. This project investigates also the downlink (DL) and uplink (UL) throughput and spectral efficiency performance of the standard Universal Mobile Telecommunications system (UMTS) system for different scenarios of user and different technologies. Power consumption comparison for different mobile technology is also discussed. The analysis can significantly help system engineers to obtain crucial performance characteristics of 3G network. At the end of the paper, coverage area of 3G from one of the mobile network in Malaysia is presented.
