Abstract

This paper describes the emphasis on rifaiyah batik which is a characteristic of rifaiyah people who are trying to be distracted by cultural activities through an activity entitled Celebrating Rifaiyah Batik which is seen in terms of interpretation of the Law on the Promotion of Culture. This research uses ethnographic methods and studies on Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Pemajuan Kebudayaan. The results showed that rifaiyah batik was made by rifaiyah people living in the Batang region. Rifaiyah batik is not just batik, but becomes a daily activity as well as a spritual practice of the rifaiyah. An activity entitled Celebrating Rifaiyah Batik was held as a form of concern, preservation and advocacy for rifaiyah batik to be known by the wider community by bringing the core message of rifaiyah batik. This is so if contextualized by Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning Pemajuan Kebudayaan, it becomes complete that the community as the owner and driver of culture. This research recommends that the interpretation of Law Number 5 of 2017 concerning the Promotion of Culture be interpreted transformatively. The government as a policymaker should support and create an atmosphere so that the community always preserves culture by continuing to explore the values of locality that exist in the context of promoting culture itself, regional development both in the human resources sector, economy and other sectors with cultural roots.

Abstract

This article aims to review how anthropology and art pay attention to art, especially to similar studies that have been carried out in Indonesia. Based on this, it is also to show the implicit meaning of some propositions and associations of ideas from an anthropological perspective that can be considered for the study of art. In this sense, it is not to solve the great questions of the anthropology of art or confine oneself to the virtues of anthropology for art but to broaden the horizons in which they must be considered.

Abstract

This article departs from the view that the dynamics of traditional society are inseparable from upheavals and contradictions based on class and gender. This article aims to conduct an explanatory critique of the uang panai' tradition, which is generally viewed romantically as a tradition that upholds the dignity and honor of women. This article is qualitative research with a critical social science approach. Data was obtained through literature studies, observations, and interviews. This research reveals three things, (1) the current practice of uang panai' tradition tends to reflect gender inequality which is possibly caused by gender construction, that inherently rooted in the notion of siri', (2) Contrary to the romantic view, the practice of uang panai' tradition can be described as a phenomenon of the commodification of women that occurs in the matrimonial market where women experience layered symbolic burdens, and (3) gender construction in the notion of siri' brings women through marriage into the circuit of capital, then absorbs the value of their work as unpaid domestic labor to ensure the sustainability of capital in the capitalist mode of production. This article invites us to rethink the concept of family where women can be sovereign over themselves.

The results of this study found that the presented of the Siak Sri Indrapura district, the plantation forest industry and the plantation industry as well as migrants caused the community to be uprooted from their agrarian economic culture. To be able to survive, the community carries out a long-term adaptation process through the transfer of sources of livelihood from agriculture to urban services and seizes the remnants of the urban economy and education. This study concludes that the pressure of ecological change forces people to adapt according to the resources they have. The facilities and infrastructure provided to the community include repairing waterways by establishing a Clean Water Facilities Management Agency (BPSAB) together with YKWS and PT. Tirta Investama while from a budget perspective it is fully supported by CSR PT. Tirta Investama and policies in the form of sanctions limit access to public services for residents who are reluctant or refuse to build healthy latrines in their respective homes.

Abstract

Border issues have recently experienced ups and downs in academia and research after the election and reshuffle of new ministers in the Indonesian government. After Mrs. Susi Pudjiastuti, former Minister of Marine Affairs and Fisheries, was reshuffled, attention to border areas, especially maritime boundaries, between countries experienced ups and downs again. The government seems to be less focused on border discourse, which raises various problems in it. However, if we look back, border studies, especially maritime borders, will be the main attraction in maintaining state sovereignty, and the culture and identity of a nation and state. This study attempts to describe and analyze the border sea area in the world of maritime, culture, religion, entity and identity of a country and nation. The historical method is used in this study with a socio-economic approach that intersects with the processes and axis of networks, culture, and identity. The network is interpreted as a process that intersects with society, as a subject and object, which becomes one axis in human activity. In the process, a communal culture and network is formed as a characteristic of a community group as a form of personal or communal and institutional expression. The results of this study indicate that a historical process has implications for the emergence of cultural groups and ethnic identities in society. The Sulawesi Sea acts as a connecting area between countries, nations, in the scope of history and culture, so this study is expected to contribute to the study of the border area of two countries and nations.

Abstract

One of the current environmental problems is plastic waste. One of the efforts to manage plastic waste in the community is through waste bank activities. This paper tries to explain the participation of farmers in the Pancadaya waste bank community in the suburbs area of Padang City, from a Giddens perspective. The research was conducted qualitatively by observation and interviews with several informants who were obtained purposively. The results of the research show that from the external dimension, several things are constraining and enabling the practice of participation by farmers, such as the distance factor and the existence of incentives.Meanwhile, from the internal dimension of farmers as subjects, participation as a social practice is largely due to unconscious motivation and practical consciousness. Only a small number of them participate in plastic waste management in waste banks based on discursive consciousness. Collaboration between waste banks and farmers as one element of customers and other parties is needed so that their participation practices are more driven by discursive consciousness
