Abstract

The study on the effect of sintering temperature on the microstructure of ceramic to microstructure of silica (SiO2 and alumina (Al2O3) composite was successfully performed. The microstructure from SEM photos of samples after sintering as well as their crystallinity were studied. Sintering were performed by using electric furnace (conventional) and 2.45 GHz microwave. The crystallinity was determined by using X-Ray Diffraction (XRD). SEM photos shows that with the increasing of sintering temperature, the porosity of samples decreased quickly, the density and hardness also increased. There are differences of their properties between conventional and microwaved sintered samples at same sintering temperature. XRD graphs shows that the crystallinity of samples on sintering by using microwaves higher than that of conventional heating.

Abstract

Charcoal briquettes from cocoa shell have been producting. Composition of glue and cacao shell as well as their microstructure (pores and grains) are optimized in order to obtain briquettes with high calor energy. The optimation of microstructure is performed by microwave activation. High glue content affect to the briquette’s moisture. The composition of glue material and cocoa shell charcoal which give highest calor energy found in this research is 5:95 %. From microstructure evaluation we found that at the pores diameter of 552 micrometer in average and grain size of  152 micrometer, the average energy of activated charcoal cocoa shell is 10,321 kkal/kg.Keywords: Cocoa shell, briquettes, calor energy, charcoal, microstructure, microwave

Abstract

Characterization of structural thin tin sulfide (SnS) deposited with a Chemical Bath Depotition (CBD) method has been conducted. The characterization results using X-Ray Difraction (XRD) showed the best results contained in the sample C with a deposition time of 36 hours. SnS diffraction peaks are at 4, 7, 8, 9, 10, and 12 at an angle of 26.9633; 29.8132; 32.9073; 39.3853; 49.5892; and 55.9665 respectively. The value of d (in A) in a row of numbers low peak high peak number is 3.30411; 2.99443; 2.71961; 2.28593; 1.83682; and 1.64168 corresponding to the areas of crystal orthorombik SnS. It denoted as (0 2 1), (0 4 0), (1 3 0), (1 3 1), (1 1 2), and (1 3 2) respectively. Moreover, the values of the lattice parameters:  a, b, and c are 4.326 Å; 11.977 Å; and 3.961 Å suggested that that the SnS thin layer has a crystalline structure of orthorombik.

Abstract

Abstract

The application of  microwave energy  to processing glucosamine hydrochloride (GlcN-HCl)  based chitosan white shrimp shell waste (Panaeus Merguensis) was investigated.  Isolation and characterization of chitin and chitosan before GlcN-HCl hydrolysis were performed. Hydrolisis was  using 2.45 GHz microwave energy. After that the GlcN-HCl was then characterized by using FTIR. Microwave has been used by varying the heating time of 3, 7, 11, and 15 minutes at the power of 450 W. The highest levels of GlcN-HCl obtained from the hydrolysis of chitosan using microwave at 11 minutes with a yield of 38.25%. GlcN-HCl which is generated showing the characteristics of GlcN-HCl hydrolysis completely soluble in water with the value of the melting point and spectrum 189,2°C. GlcN-HCl showed some functional groups are -OH groups, NH, NH3 + asymmetric, asymmetric CH3, CN and CO.  The GlcN-HCl hydrolyzed by using the microwave is similar to that of hotplate one.

Abstract

Research on briquette quality hybrid by proximate analysis, calorific value, and a flame test has been conducted. Briquettes hybrid made by using Liquid Volatile Matters (LVM) as the glue. The LVM was varied with the composition of 5%, 10%, 15% of the sample. Hybrid briquettes have a calorific value ranging between 5144,79kal / g - 6922.07 cal / g. Rising temperatures are also likely to affect the timing and duration of the test flame hybrid briquettes. The higher the pyrolysis temperature and adhesive composition Liquid Volatile Matters (LVM) the longer briquettes burning flame time.
