Abstract

Background: Composite resin has been widely used because of it's great aesthetic and physico-chemical properties. Type of posterior composite resins mostly used nowadays are packable and bulk-fill composite resins. Shrinkage in composite resin resulting microleakage that could lead to pulp sensitivity. Dentin bonding adhesive system can help to minimalize shrinkage. There are two type of adhesive system, the total etch and self etch group. The purpose of this study was to compare the microleakage between bulk-fill and packable composit resin with two different types of dentin bonding adhesive system. Method: twenty premolar teeth used as sample. The teeth were divided into four groups of 5 teeth each and Class I cavity preparations were prepared. The groups are : G1 (PC + TE), G2 (PC + SE), G3 (BC + TE), G4 (BC + SE). The specimens were thermocycled, stained with methylene blue dye, and sectioned to evaluate the dye penetration.Result: Kruskal Wallis test showed no difference among 4 groups. Meanwhile, Mann Whitney test showed significance difference between G2 - G3, and G3 - G4.Conclus/on: The study demonstrated that total etch has better sealing ability than self etch and there was no significant microleakage difference between bulkfill composite and packable composite.

Abstract

Background: Calcium hydroxide (Ca(0H)2) has a beneficial biological properties as intracanal medicament. However, the direct contact of Ca(OH)2 with the root canal dentine can affect the physical properties and increasing the root fracture risk of treated tooth. This study aimed to determine the effect of application periods Ca(OH)2 mix with glycerin and chlorhexidine digluconate 2% on the micro hardness of root canal dentine.Method: Thirty extracted mandibular first premolars were use in this study. The crowns of the teeth were removed and the canals were prepared with crown- down technique. Each root was sectioned transversely on cervical third of 5 mm thickness and then they were mounted on acrylic resin. The specimens were randomly divided into 6 groups of 5 root segments each. In group IA, IB and IC Ca(0H)2 — glycerin mix were applicated during in a row two weeks contact, four weeks contact and twelve weeks contact. Whereas in group IIA, IIB and IIC Ca(0H)2 - chlorhexidine digluconate 2% mix were applicated during in a row two weeks contact, four weeks contact and twelve weeks contact. During the treatment period, the subjects were kept in an incubator at 37 ° C. Vickers Indenter Microhardness Tester was used to measure the micro hardness of root canal dentine after direct contact with Ca(OH)2 paste.Result: The results showed that the contact periods were effected on dentin micro hardness, while the type of vehicle was not significant. Conclusion: Greatest dentin micro hardness value shown on the application Ca(OH)2 – glycerine paste during two weeks, while the smallest value shown on the application pasta Ca(OH)2 -glycerine during twelve weeks.

Abstract

Background: Leeway space is an excess space available because of the differences between the amount of mesiodistal width of canine, first premolar and second premolar and the amount of mesiodistal width of primary canine, first molar and second molar. There's a variation of Leeway space among individuals. This variation occurs because of growth and development period which are influenced by environmental factors, nutrition and ethnic variations. Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the difference in the average Leeway space of Banjarese population with the size of Leeway space according to Proffit.Method: This study used an observational analytic with cross sectional approach. The number of mesiodistal width of primary c, m1, and m2 is substracted with the number of mesiodistal width of permanent C, P1, and P2 of 77 samples to determine the average Leeway space and then compared with the Leeway space according to Proffit. Measurements were done using a digital caliper followed with data analysis using Mann-Whitney test.Result: The average of Banjarese population Leeway space is 0.37 mm in each region of the maxilla and 2.2 mm in each region of the mandible. Results of the Mann-Whitney test showed that there were significant differences in maxillary Leeway space of Banjarese population compared to the Leeway space according to Proffit. Conclusion: The conclusion of this study is there were differences between the average Leeway space of Banjarese population with the Leeway space according to Proffit.

Abstract

Background: Dental radiographic examination is one of the most frequent radiological examinations carried out. X-rays in dental radiography is a shortwave electromagnetic rays that cause ionization reaction to any biological material in its path. The purpose of this article is to give an overview of stochastic effects in general as well as to pregnant women and fetuses in particular.Discussion: Ionizing radiation, such as X-ray radiation, is potentially teratogenic. Safe dose has not been well defined, although there has been approved dosing limits. Gestational age most vulnerable is the end of week 2 to A weeks post-conception. If the much needed radiographs of a woman who is pregnant, then the X-ray exposure will be directed mostly to the head and neck area.Conc/usion: Therefore, the application of the principle of ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) as well as good protection, including instrument control, protection of the room, the cumulative exposure dose control, and the use of apron throughout the process, is noteworthy. Such protection, especially for pregnant women and fetuses.
