Mu’tazila had reached the power in Abbasiya Dinasty. Mu’tazilah main controversial thought was the notion that Al Quran is a creature. All peoples and scholars were forced to follow the thought. Meanwhile there was a scholar who strongly opposed the notion. He was Imam Ahmad Ibn Hambal. He was often threated, tortured and busted by the ruler. Imam Ahmad Ibn Hambal thought was inspired by the new theological school, Salaf School. Salaf was the theological school following the Imam Ahamad Ibn Hambal thought which was formulated by Imam Ahmad Ibn Taimiyah. As the Asyariyah school, Salaf was the reaction against the Mu’tazilah thought. The paper will discuss the two main scholar of Salafi School namely Imam ibn Hambal and Ibn Taimiyah. It includes their biographies, toughts, and their interpretation on Mutasyabihat, the verses which have no clear on meaning and the Allah’s attributes.

The almost comprehensive note about Buddhism in The Archipelago is written by I’tsing. The note was made in 672 when he had stayed for six month in Sriwijaya to learn Sanskrit before he learned Buddhism in India. From the note, it is known that Srivijaya was the center of Buddhist study in Asia and had close relation to the Buddhist schools in India. There were many pupils from China and Tibet who studied Buddhism in Srivijaya. Unfortunately, the fame of Buddhism in Srivijaya has disappeared for almost three millennia. In 1954, the commomeration of 2500 years on the development of Buddhism was held in Indonesia. The moment was considered as the Buddhism revivalism in Indonesia dubbed as Buddha Jayanti moment.

Death in Sufism is not a physical death. A Man can be told death if no longer does not he have a sensitivity of his surrounding. Eyes stare but they do not see, ears widely open but they do not hear, and noses can not smell. A man who has inability of the senses is the dead man. Allah has said in Koran An-Naml (27:80) . The dead man in the actual life has the dead soul. The dead soul is marked by the greaving when he leaves the religious command and without regretting when he makes the sins,

There are four schools in Islamic theological thought namely, Mu’tazilah, Asyariah, Maturidiah Samarkhand and Maturidiah Bukhara. The four schools can be devided into two types; those are rational and traditional Islamic thought. Mu’tazilah and Maturidiah Samarkand are the rational type; meanwhile Asyariah and Maturidiah Bukhara are traditional type. The paper try to analyse the theology of Muhammadiyah based on two types of theological thought. Muhammadiyah one of the biggest religious organization in Indonesia, asserts itself as the Islamic puritanist, reformist movement as well. Their comprehension on Allah attributes tends to follow the Asy’ariyah thought that acknowledges the Allah’s attributes. On the other hand, their comprehension on the Allah’s justice tends to follow the thougt of Maturidiyah Samarkan. Allah appraises the men based on their deeds in this world. Thus it can be concluded that on this subject Muhammadiyah has rational theological type.

Al-Ghazali was a controversial figure. Many scientists adore him but many others condemn him. Hundreds of books have been discussed about his thinking. Thus it until now still remains interesting to study. Prominent Al-Ghozali has been and is still one of the biggest figures in the Muslim world similar to the position of August and Aquinas in the Christian world. Even some schoolars from Islam (particularly Sunni) and from Europe have looked Ghazali as a multidimensional characters, he was a theologian, philosopher, sufi and jurist. However, some Muslims consider al-Ghazali as the cause of the decline of Islam, because of his book Tahafut al-Falasifah. In fact Muslims are not ready with different opinions. Due to the differences of opinion in theology, hundreds or even thousands of peoples have been the victims throughout the Islamic history. The paper will discuss about the controversial thought of Al Ghazali, namely: the problem of natural immortality, The God’s knowledgement on universal problem not the particular one, and the resurrection of the body in hereafter. In spite of the strong opposition of al-Ghazali’s philosophy, the opposition only covers on the issues of his metaphisics thought and concealing another aspect such as using Aristotelian logic to think about God.

Muhammad is the “ummi” prophet. The ummi can be translated as illiteracy but the word ummi itself contains plural meaning in Alquran. The word refers not only to the prophet but also to the Arab people. Therefore, the word contains two meaning namely illiteracy and non-people of the book. Indeed, Muhammad is illiterate prophet proving that Al Alquran is authentic word of Allah. Historically most of the arab people at the time of prophecy are literate peoples. If the world ummi translated only as illiteracy thus it is on the contrary with the historical fact.
