Abstract

Rape is not a new phenomenon in the human history, and is continuously regarded as a tragic social issue. Rape as the mechanism of domination and control has been exercised by great nations in the past. Rape perpetually furnishes the international agenda from the Universal Declaration of Human Rights to the latest conference on Violence Against Women in Valencia, Spain on November, 24-26, 2000. The conference stipulates that rape is the violation against humanity which put women as the victims. The paper will focuse on how rape has been used as the means of domination and control of women, either individually and collectively. The paper will also explore theframeworks which illustrate rape as the means of domination which is parallel to colonialization. pinally, the paper will show the shifting paradigm from rape as 'man to man' issues to women rights issues. Women's struggle to affirm rape as human rights violation has made a significant progress by the establishment of The International Tribunal on mass rape as a crime against humanity.

Abstract

The setback of regional economic growth, in turn, has a big enough influence in the regional labor market. This condition is deteriorated by the decrease of investment flow as a consequence of the existing political rush and it has a direct impact toward the economic field. The reality that the political virus has transformed and even nearly destroyed the national and regional economic structures becomes an inevitable thing. The fact that the economic pressure incomparable with the economic potency of the country of origin becomes one of important determinants for the rise of new dimensions in migration activities. It is also pushed by the development of globalization spirit which has direct consequence in economic field of some countries. Therefore, in the next era of global transparency and free market, government in many countries (including countries in the third world) can no longer shoot aside on behalf of any political interests or economic protections but open a political entrance to give a more transparent security commitment to their labors in general.

Abstract

At the last ten years, the migration trend has become interested to be studied. The feminization trend of international migration is one of the aspects that need further analysis. Unfortunately, the existing studies have not been able to answer the issue. One of the issues is the problem of life of women return migrant on the context of the process of reintegration in the social economic life and social culture of households and origin area community. This research shows that the changes of the material basics of women return migrant effects on the changing of the social economic aspiration. On the other hand, migrating can improve the bargaining position of women on the household life. It seems that migrant can act as the changing agent in the society. The reducing of the old values occurs along with the migrant reintegration process resulting the life pattern in some aspects of the household and community life differs than before the migration.

Abstract

Drugs abuse has become a crucial problem, since data have indicated that the case increases dramatically. In RSKO (Rehabilitation Hospital for Drugs Addict) the growth of patients in this rehabilitation have increased 400 percent from 1996 to 1999. The increasing of drugs abuse cases predicted to create 'a lost generation' since the most abuser is young generation. Besides, another health problem will follow especially in reproductive health problems. Recently Injecting Drugs Users (IDUs) have been popular practice and they usually exchange syringes and needles. This behavior is a risky factors to transmit the HIV/AIDS. As we know that the transmission of HIV/AIDS through IDU has become the second most after sexual intercourse.Efforts to overcome the problem regarding with drug abuses have not been effectively done. The Indonesian government still behaves in ambiguity to handle drugs abuse problems. To reduce the spread of the HIV/AIDS among IDUs, several institutions offer needle exchange and bleaching programs, in which the government has not been prefered to support them.

Abstract

There are two perspectives of female circumcision among scholars. First, female circumcision is a matter of tradition that has been legalized by religious interpretations, especially Islam. Essentially, Islam does not obligate women to practice it. The practice could be accepted as far as it doesn't not destroy the functions of woman sex organ. Second, female circumcision is a tradition that has been legalized by men powers for satisfying themselves in sexual performance as well as in social relations. Female genital mutilation, which means removing the clitoris, labia minora and majora of the female sex organ, is the practice to make males having more pleasure in sexual relationship. Here, the objective of such practice is to insult 'female dignity' and to show that females should obey males domination. Islam prohibits the latter practice.
