Abstract

Senggugu root bark (Clerodendrum serratum L. Moon) is known as a mucolitics. Senggugu root bark is made in the dosage form of lozenges in combination with sucrose, mannitol and lactose in order to obtain good flavor and comfortable when consumed. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of the combination of fillers on the physical properties of granules and tablets as well as the composition of the combination of excipients to produce lozenges of extract of senggugu root bark with optimum physical properties. Seven formulas were made with a combination of mannitol, lactose and sucrose as follows: FI (100%: 0%: 0%), FII (0%: 100%: 0%), FIII (0%: 0%: 100%), FIV (50 %: 50%: 0%), FV (50%: 0%: 50%), FVI (0%: 50%: 50%), and FVII (33.3%: 33.3%: 33.3% ). The results showed that the combination of mannitol, lactose and sucrose affected the physical properties of the granules and lozenges of extract of senggugu root bark i.e. flow rate, hardness, dissolved time, compactibility and perceptive sense. The dominant amount of sucrose and lactose can improve the physical properties of granules and tablets. The optimal composition of the combination of mannitol, lactose and sucrose obtained from Design Expert 7.1.5. program was 5.491%: 37.387%: 57.122%, respectively.

Abstract

Essential oils of basil leaves that have spesific aroma can be used as a mosquito repellent. Lotions are more practical, easy to apply, easy to pour, and more efficient so repellent made in dosage form of lotion. The purpose of this study was to determine the repellent activity of volatile oil of basil leaf (Ocimum basilicum (L.) f. Citratum Back) against Aedes aegypti in lotion. Basil leaves are air-dried, then distilled by water and steam distillation for ± 6 hours. Essential oils with some concentrations(15% v / v, 25% v / v, and 35% v / v in 95% ethanol)are formulated in lotion. Physical properties (homogeneity, viscosity, dispersive power, and adhesion power) and repellent activity of lotions are tested. The data obtained are analyzed using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov test analysis, 2-way ANOVA test, and Turkey HSD test. The repellent activity is analyzed using One-Way ANOVA and Turkey test in level of 95%. The results showed that lotions with increasedessential oil concentration (15% v / v, 25% v / v, 35% v / v in 95% ethanol) are homogeneous and easily poured. Lotion with that increased concentration of essential oils of basil leaves (15% v / v, 25% v / v, 35% v / v in 95% ethanol) showed repellent activity with time protection of 3522, 4611, and 5435 seconds.

Abstract

Legundi Leaf (Vitex trifolia L. ) often used in traditional medicine as anti asthma in Indonesia. The use of this plant in treatment is less practical and less accepted, so it needs to make in more appropriate preparation like chewable lozenges. Materials that can provide chewy texture are glycerin and gelatin. The goal from this research is to know the variations effect in the proportion of base glycerin – gelatin to physical properties of chewable lozenges and viteksikarpin bioavailability from preparation.  Chewable lozenges was made with molding mixture method. There are three formulas with variations in the glycerin- gelatin proportions, those were Formula I (10 % : 90 %), Formula II (20 % : 80 %) dan Formula III (30 % : 70 %). Formed chewable lozenges was tested physical properties includes weight uniformity test, dissolving time, water content, TLC –densitometry  and taste test using questionnaire response by respondent. Obtained data analyzed statistically with one way variance analysis the level of confidence (α) = 0,05. Result showed that presence variant in the proportion of glycerin and gelatin affected physical properties of legundi leaf extract chewable lozenges. The more proportion of gelatin will lengthen dissolving time (significance < 0,05), and the more proportion of glycerine the higher water level of chewable lozenges (significance < 0,05). Formulation of chewable lozenges affect to bioavailability of viteksikarpin from  preparation. The more proportion of gelatin the fewer bioavailability of viteksikarpin. Based on taste test legundi leaf extract chewable lozenges subjectively, formula II is the most favorite by respondent.

Abstract

Legundi (Vitex trifolia L.) is one of Indonesia’s traditional crops that have not been studied and developed into fitofarmaka. Legundi leaves can be used for therapy in asthmatics with optimum level. Therefore it is necessary for optimization of harvesting Legundi leaves which includes time and degree of maturation of the leaves. Harvesting time optimization by means of harvesting the leaves at the different times i.e. morning, noon, and evening, while the leaf maturation level optimization by way of harvesting leaves numbered one through five of the youngest end, then the time of harvesting and leaves that provide optimum levels of viteksikarpin were assigned. Measurements of viteksikarpin assigned using TLCdensitometry then analyzed using Wincats software and Microsoft Office Excel 2007. The highest viteksikarpin levels in Legundi leaves harvested in the afternoon, then during the day, and the lowest in the morning. The highest viteksikarpin levels of Legundi leaves were on second leaf, first leaf, third leaf, fourth leaf, and the lowest on fifth leaf. Optimum levels of viteksikarpin in Legundi leaves was harvested in the afternoon by picking the first until the third leaf.

Abstract

This research aims to isolate and determine relative concentration of alkaloid in Hibiscus rosa-sinensis L flowers. using spectrodensitometry. Ethanolic extract of H. rosa-sinensis flowers was made by maceration methode using etanol 70% as solvent. Fractionation of alkaloid compound was using VLC (Vaccum Liquid Chromatography) and using organic solfent mixture of methanol-ethyl acetate in variation concentration. Isolate was used as standard curve, then the concentration of H. rosa-sinensis flowers extract was determined using spectrodensitometry with silica gel as stationer phase and ethyl acetate: methanol ( 1:5 v / v) as mobile phase. The relative concentration of alkaloid was calculated by using standard curve Y = 29023.75 X + 5809.35, r = 0.996. Determination of isolate showed the relative concentration of alkaloid was 0.210 ± 0.035 % and this can be used as marker compound.

Abstract

Ginger (Zingiber officinale Rosc.) has efficacy as an anti-emetic. Ginger rhizome is usually consumed as instant beverages, so that need to be made into a dosage form that more effective, efficient and attractive. This research aims to formulate ginger into effervescent tablets by using variation of the levels of citric acid and tartaric acid. Dried extract of ginger was made with percolation method using ethanol 70% and evaporated using spray dryer. Extract was made for 5 formulas with variation of acid source using smelting method. Granules were tested its physical properties include flow time, tap index, angle of repose, water absorption, compactibility, mass density, water content, and total phenolic level. Granules were compressed become tablets and tested for physical properties include weight uniformity, friability, hardness, dissolve time, flavor response test and total phenolic level. Data were analyzed with Anova One Way using 95% confidence level. The result shown that formula III was the best formula because it meets the physical requirements of granules and tablets. While the formula V (100% tartaric acid) was a formula that provides the greatest stability phenolic levels.
