Abstract

This research aimed to improve students’ creative thinking skill on the topic of tabular side ofgeometric shape by IDEAL Problem Solving Learning. The subject of this research was thestudents of class VIIIF in MTs Ma’arif NU 1 Wangon totaled to 40 Students. This researchwas a class action research that had been done in 3 cycles where each cycle consisted ofplanning, action, observation, evaluation, and reflection. The data of students’ creativethinking skill in this showed that there were improvements in each cycle. The average ofsmooth thinking indicator in cycle I was 2,78, in cycle II 3,2, and in cycle II 2,38, and 2,53 incycle III. The average of flexible thinking indicator in cycle I was 2,5, in cycle II 2,38, and2,53 in cycle III. The average of original thinking indicator in cycle I was 2,5, in cycle II 2,53,and 2,98 in cycle III. The average of elaborating skill indicator in cycle I was 2,35, in cycle II2,7, and 3,28 in cycle III. It could be concluded that IDEAL Problem Solving was able toimprove students’creative thinking skill on mathematic subject in class VIIIF MTs Ma’arifNU 1 Wangon.KEY WORDS: creative thinking skill, IDEAL Problem Solving

Abstract

This research aimed to describe students' mathematical creative thinking ability at SMPNegeri 1 Sumbang. This research belongs to descriptive qualitative research. The subjects ofthis research were the students Grade VII G of SMP Negeri 1 Sumbang. The samples weretaken using purposive sampling technique. The data were collected using questionnaire, test, interview, and documentation. The data validity test used in this research was triangulation. The results of this research illustrate that: 1) Low category students could meet one indicatorof mathematic creative thinking ability i.e. fluency. Their learning motivation was good. Theypreferred to learn in a group. They were enthusiastic when they were given awards during theinstruction. 2) Medium category students could meet two indicators of mathematic creativethinking ability i.e. fluency and flexibility. Their learning motivation was very good. Theywere active during the instruction and they preferred to work autonomously. They sometimesreviewed the lesson that had been learned at school. 3) High category students could mastermathematic creative thinking ability i.e. fluency and flexibility. Their learning motivation wasvery good. When they met hard questions, they would try to solve the problems well. Duringthe instruction, they were active and they preferred to work autonomously.KEY WORDS: Mathematical Creative Thinking, Learning Motivation

Abstract

This research aimed to describe critical thinking ability at students of SMP Negeri 3Purwokerto viewed from mathematical disposition. The subject was the students of class VIIIE. Purposive sampling was used as sampling methods. The subject was taken from eachmathematical disposition category namely high, fair and low. The questionnaire, test, interview, and documentation were used for collecting data. Triangulation technique was usedfor validation test. 1) Students with high mathematical disposition categpry had already filled2 out 3 critical thinking indicators that they were able to compose information systematicallyand prove a truth for a problem. However, they failled on giving argument accurately becauseof their inaccuracies at the end the process. 2) Students with fair mathematical dispositioncategory had already filled the indicator of being able to prove a truth for a problem.3) Students with a low mathematical disposition category had not filled all the criticalthinking indicators yet.KEY WORDS: Critical thiking ability, Mathematical disposition

Abstract

This research aims to know the errors of students in solving the question of the story thesubject of composition of functions. This research is a descriptive qualitative researchqualifies. The subject of this research is the grade XI SMK Bakti Purwokerto. Based on theresults of the analysis of the answers to questions given to students, other forms of errorscommitted students is an error stating the problem, determine what the error was asked from aproblem, understand the error information of a problem, and not careful in counting.Keyword: error analysis, a matter story, composition of functions

Abstract

Trigonometry was one of the basic topic used for learning advance mathematics. Lecturer borteacher and students often faced difficulties when they learned trigonometri and answeredtrigonometric exercises, moreover when they solved trigonometric problem. This articledescribed the undergraduate students unnecessary mistakes of trigonometric exercises. Theconjectures of mistakes was created based on students mistakes in learning trigonometry. Datacollection conducted from students test result. Data reduction, data display, and conclusiondrawing was used to analyze the data. Test result choosed analyzed based on the conjecturescreated. Research found nine students unnecessary mistakes of the trigonometric exerciseanswer agreed with the conjectures. These were student uncared place of quadrant, studentsgot accidently exchange formula, students created table to help them drawing trigonometricfunction graph, students drew trigonometric function graph in a straight line manner, studentsdid not add period in solution of trigonometric equation, students did not operate to all of thepart of equation, students applied distribution in a wrong place, students applied uncorrectformula, students did not connect between trigonometry other concept in mathematics.Keyword: Trigonometry, Unnecessary Mistake, Students Answer.

Abstract

This study aimed to describe the inductive reasoning mathematically ability and curiosity of8th grade students of SMP Muhammadiyah Sokaraja. This research was descriptivequalitative. Sampling using purposive sampling. In this study, students are grouped into threegroups namely the achievement of students with low, medium and high are determined basedon the value of UTS the second semester of the school year of 2014/2015 in class VIII C SMPMuhammadiyah Sokaraja. Each group selected three students for the purposes of theinterview. The method of collecting data in this study using tests, interviews, questionnairesand documentation. The results obtained: 1) Reasoning Inductive Mathematical: Studentswith low achievement has not been able to examine the patterns and structures to findregularities of patterns, formulate generalizations and allegations of regularities were found, and has not been able to draw conclusions, compile evidence and reasoning / proof of thetruth of the solution. Students with moderate achievement simply can not draw conclusions, compile evidence and give reasons / evidence of the truth of the solution. While students withhigh achievement already meet the three indicators of inductive reasoning mathematically. 2)Curiosity: Students with low achievement is already showing early signs of curiosity towardsmathematics. While students with moderate and high achievement already showing curiosity /interest towards mathematics.KEY WORDS: Inductive Reasoning Mathematically, Curiosity

Abstract

This research aimed to describe students' mathematical reasoning ability viewed from spatialintelligence in SMP Negeri 3 Banyumas. This was conducted in Grade VIII A SMP Negeri 3Banyumas. The method of this research was qualitative descriptive. The sampling techniquewas purposive sampling. The subjects were divided into three groups; group with high spatialintelligence, group with medium spatial intelligence, and group with low spatial intelligence. The techniques of collecting data were test and interview. The result of this research showsthat: (1) Students with high spatial intelligence were able to master six indicators ofmathematical reasoning ability such as proposing presumption, finding the pattern to makegeneralization, drawing conclusion from the statements, proving the truth of a solution, doingmathematic manipulation, and checking the validity of an argument; (2) Students withmedium spatial intelligence were able to master four indicators of mathematical reasoningability such as proposing presumption, finding the pattern to make generalization, doingmathematic manipulation, and checking the validity of an argument; and (3) Students withlow spatial intelligence were able to master three indicators of mathematical reasoning abilitysuch as proposing presumption, drawing conclusion from the statements, and doingmathematic manipulation.KEY WORDS: Mathematical Reasoning Ability, Spatial Intelligence
