Abstract

Introduction: Social media is growing rapidly and is used by individuals, groups and organisations. One of them is Facebook. Facebook is used by individuals, groups, governments, and communities. Including travelling communities such as Jakarta Backpackers and Malaysian Backpacker Buddies who use Facebook as a medium for promoting tourism destinations. Methods: This study is a descriptive qualitative research that approaches the problem by analysing the communication strategy of Backpacker Jakarta and Backpackers Buddies Malaysia through Facebook to promote tourism destinations. The concept of communication strategy is used as a guide in this research. Findings: The communication objectives of the Jakarta Backpacker Community and Malaysian Backpackers Buddies are to provide information and persuade Facebook users both in the Indonesian region and the world community. Facebook was chosen as a medium for sharing information on tourism destinations with consideration of the high number of Facebook users in both Indonesia and Malaysia. Promotion is the main objective of the message on the Jakarta Backpacker and Malaysian Backpackers Buddies Facebook accounts. The inclusion of content reference sources and content sustainability is an effort to create a sense of trust by these two travelling communities. Originality: This research has novelty value because previous research did not focus on the Facebook community strategy in promoting tourism destinations in two countries, namely Malaysia and Indonesia. Whereas previous research focuses on the content used to plan travel. In previous studies, community and member engagement in social media conversations led to positive and negative information about gender-based destinations.

Introduction: Along with the technological development and radical growth of internet of things, digital marketing also risen as a vital tool in promoting products and services. Understanding the attitude and consumer buying behavior online also rapidly growing in the e-business limelight however, in the Philippine context there were few literatures about Gen Z online buying behavior. The purpose of the study is to determine the impact of digital marketing on the online purchase decision and buying behavior of Filipino Gen Z consumers. Methods: A survey research method was utilized to collect data from randomly selected 378 Gen Z online shoppers from Polytechnic University of the Philippines. A Pearson-r correlation was used to determine if there was a significant relationship between the variables. Findings: The results revealed that there were significant relationships between digital marketing and consumer purchase decisions. Consumer Purchase Decision was also affected by social, personal, and psychological factors. The result also revealed that time spent in social media sites does not influence the buying behavior of Gen Z in Pre-purchase, Purchase, and Post-purchase stages. Originality: The study becomes novel since there were very few studies about digital marketing in developing countries. Furthermore, there are no previous studies examining Filipino Gen Z’s Online Buying Behavior in Purchase Decision Process in Pre-Purchase, Purchase, and Post-purchase stages. This study makes an important contribution to behavioral research in developing countries.

Abstract

Introduction: This study explored the role of mass media in enhancing tsunami preparedness among young adults on the southern coast of Central Java, a region highly vulnerability to tectonic events. Mass media, with its extensive reach and persuasive influence, played a significant role in disaster communication, shaping public awareness and preparedness. Methods: Guided by Elaboration Likelihood Model (ELM) and neuroscience perspectives, the research examined how cognitive and emotional responses to disaster information influenced preparedness behaviors. A survey was conducted with 175 respondents aged 18-24 from Calaca, a high-risk tsunami zone. Among these, 91 respondents had prior disaster experience, with 60.38% relying on mass media as their primary source of emergency information. Findings: The survey results showed that 74.9% of respondents indicated readiness for disaster preparedness. The study integrated the ELM framework with cognitive neuroscience, emphasizing modification to critical element such as ability to process information and the nature of cognitive processing. These adaptations supported more effective, persuasive disaster communication. Originality: The finding underscored the potential of mass media as powerful stimulus, shaping cognitive responses and preparedness behavior. This research contributed to understanding the interplay between disaster communication, cognitive processes, and behavioral outcomes, offering insights for designing targeted interventions to enhance preparedness.

Abstract

Introduction: This article examined how internet regulations in Indonesia, specifically the Electronic Information and Transactions (EIT) Law, impacted freedom of expression in the digital space from 2008 to 2021. Methods: Qualitative research was conducted, employing a case study approach, utilizing literature studies and analyzing articles related to the EIT Law and freedom of expression violations. Findings: The study identified 371 instances where the EIT Law was used to prosecute individuals, often those exposing criminal activity online, highlighting a concerning trend of criminalizing victims. Articles 27, 28, and 29 were particularly problematic due to their ambiguity, creating opportunities to suppress online discourse. This analysis revealed a concerning pattern of the EIT Law being used to restrict digital freedom of expression and public participation, aligning with Althusser's (1970) concept of a repressive state apparatus. The research identified the government, entrepreneurs, and the police as the primary actors utilizing the EIT Law, often to the detriment of civil society members, reflecting the concept of hegemony. This study recommends further research into the EIT Law's impact on digital freedom of expression, focusing on the legislative process, the experiences of those affected by the law, and comparative analyses with other countries. Investigating the evolving landscape of digital rights about state control and corporate. Originality: This manuscript addressed a significant gap in existing literature by providing an in-depth analysis of the practical implications of Indonesia's Information and Electronic Transactions (ITE) Law on digital freedom of expression.

Abstract

Introduction: Technology penetrates society and has an impact on daily life. Historically, technology was dominated by men. Recently, women have become closer to the internet to share ideas through cyberspace, build sites that allow them to interact with women and women’s communities, and use the internet to help their productive activities. This study attempts to explain modern society’s connections between women and technology. The data analysis used cyberfeminism theory. Methods: This study used qualitative methods and illustrated the case study of SiBakul platform usage by MSMEs in the Special Region of Yogyakarta. SiBakul is an ICT-based platform for branding the digital ecosystem of MSMEs in DIY Province. The data collection employed in-depth interviews, observation, and documentation. Data sources include MSME actors and the government responsible for the MSME sector.  Findings: The results showed that SiBakul is the driving force behind digital platforms that support MSMEs' activities. Through the marketplace, the MSME actors, both women and men, use technology. The analysis concludes that there is a possible equality between women and men in accessing and using technology to promote and market their business products. The women develop their insight into cyberspace to increase their knowledge and be more productive economically. Originality: The study uses the cyberfeminism perspective to highlight the importance of adapting to environmental changes in the Industry 4.0 era with women's equality for broader access to technology. Besides, it is considered for women’s equality in public areas and the productive sector, such as in MSME activities.
