Abstract

Calculated Carbon Values of The Forest in Bali Province In its position as a life support system, the forest has been of great benefit to humankind, therefore, should be preserved. in its position as a life support system. Current issues that has not been the effort to determine the carbon content of vegetation contained in the forest in Bali Province so is not known how important the existence of the forest. This study is intended to complete the task and provide a general description of the importance of forests as a buffer of life. Implementation of forest carbon values ??calculated using the data of the activities Permanent Sample Plots (PSP) in Bali Province processed to obtain the amount of biomass and amount of carbon. Composition of the stands in each plot by arranging the order of INV species of minimum value to maximum INV the maximum in each plot ranged from 39.79% to 165.31% . forest stand structure in order of number of poles minimum value to a maximum of 35 rods ranging up to 249 while the number of tree trunks as much as 39 to 178 rods. the average diameter of stands in each plot ranged from 11.24 cm to 36.65 cm . forest stand structure in each plot based on high order of maximum to minimum values ??ranging from 2 m to 5 m , while the maximum height ranges from 8 m to 26 m . average height standing of tree in each plot ranged from 4.85 m to 10.48 m. forest stand volume ranged from 104.93 t C/ha to 287.38 t C/ha with an average value of carbon 168.72 t C/ha. The entire plot is in the province of Bali is dominated by stands of the carbon value of class 60-80 t C/ha with a total area of ??6 ha plot, followed by the class standing of the carbon value of 100-200 t C/ha and 80-100t C/ha, with the total area of ??the plot in a row 3 and 2 ha, as well as by class standing of the carbon value <60 t C/ha and> 120 t C/ha, with a total area of each plot of 1 ha.

Abstract

Mechanism of Rice Adaptation at Drought Stress Conditions and Effort to Prevent Crop Failure Harvest losses of rice caused by drought is about 15-20% every year, so it needs rice varieties that can adapt to the conditions referred to in order to harvest losses can be reduced. To get the rice varieties that can adapt to environmental conditions such as drought, then the required information in advance about the properties owned by the rice plant varieties capable of responding to drought conditions. This paper is organized with the aim to study the mechanisms of adaptation of plant varieties of rice in drought stress conditions. Adaptation mechanisms are grouped into two main groups namely, anatomy morphological adaptation mechanism and physiology biochemical mechanisms of metabolic adaptation. Morphological adaptation mechanisms include anatomic distribution properties and root growth, maintain plant water potential, canopy temperature, the leaves curl and abort. Biochemical adaptation mechanisms include metabolic physiology traits ability to synthesize secondary metabolites such as ethylene and abscisic acid, osmotic adjustments such as increasing accumulation of sugars, amino acids and proline. Furthermore, to prevent crop failure takes effort to implement cultivation techniques schedules and cropping patterns, planting drought-resistant varieties, and the addition of organic matter.

Abstract

Hybrid Rice Planting Assessment in Purwakarta Hybrid rice planting assessment was conducted at lowland area in Wanasari village, Wanayasa subdistrict, Purwakarta district during second dry season 2008. Seven varieties of hybrid rice namely Mapan 02, Pioner PP II, SL 8 SHS, Pioner PP I, HIPA 3, HIPA 4 and HIPA 6 were evaluated to find out hybrid rice varieties that are suitable to the agroecosystem. The observations were done for number of tillers, number of panicle per hill, number of productive panicle per hill, panicle length, number of filled-grain per panicle, number of unfilled-grain per panicle, plant height, and yield. Descriptive statistics analysis showed that the most number of panicle was 17.67 on SL 8 SHS and the least was 8.67 on HIPA 3, while the highest number of productive panicle was 15.67 on Pioner PP I and the least was 6.3 on HIPA 3. The longest of panicle was 6.90 cm on Pioner PP I and the shortest was 6.36 cm on HIPA 3. The highest number of well-filled grain was 75.18 on Pioner PP I, but it has 195.80 unfilledgrain. The lowest number of well-filled grain was 52.88 on HIPA 3 and the lowest unfilled-grain was 108.40 on Mapan 02. The highest plant was HIPA 6 with the height of plant was 93 cm, and the lowest was Mapan 02 with the height of plant was 78.06 cm. While the most number of tillers was 21.8 on HIPA 6, and the lowest was 15.88 on Pioner PP II. The highest yield was 5.84 t ha-1 on Pioner PP I and the lowest was 3.76 t ha-1 on SL 8 SHS. According to agronomic characters and the yield, the most appropriate rice hybrid to plant at Wanasari village, Wanayasa sub-district, Purwakarta district during second dry season was Pioner PP I.
