Abstract

Sei Nipah has enormous potential for natural resources. Natural resources that serve as the main livelihood in fulfilling daily needs in Kampung Nipah is shellfish. Shellfish (M. meretrix) is one of the shells that many interested by the surrounding community. The purpose of this research is to know growth parameter and age group of shellfish (M. meretrix) in Kampung Nipah. The sampling technique was done randomly (simple random sampling). Sampling time is done at low tide. Sampling was conducted in March - May 2017. The results showed differences in the length of different shells each month. The size group of shellfish (M. meretrix) found only one size group during the three months of the study. Analysis of shellfish growth parameters based on data of long frequency distribution showed length of infiniti (L?) 33,10 mm and growth growth (K) that was 1,21 per month. Von Bertalanffy Growth Parameters Lt = 33.1 (1-e [-1.21 (t + 0.12)]) Long infiniti size is seen the growth of shellfish shells can no longer be worked Shells reach maximum length at the age of 13 months with a shell length of 33.10 mm.The youthful shells have rapid growth and as age increases, when it reaches old age the rate of growth will slow even.

Abstract

Shark is one of top predator that can define and control marine food chain. Shark breeding process is relatively slow and increase of catching activity has even given worse impact to shark population. Several endangered shark species has already protected the catch activity was banned. Some of them, such as Alopias superciliosus are found in Benoa and Kedonganan harbour. This condition happened because of not enough information and knowledge transfer to the local community about the protected species and catching regulation. Based on that information, the research about fishermen perception on shark conservation status and its correlation with the shark catch is important to be conducted. Data was collected using quisioner through interview approach. All the respondent is men with the age ranged from 16-67 years old, and 98% of respondent is labor. About 55% of the respondent graduated from elementary school. The result showed that the fisherman perception of shark conservation status categorized as good, while shark catch that is related with conservation in Badung district is categorized very good. The correlation of fisherman perception to shark conservation status with shark catching effort is negative, and significant to the shark catching effort (?=0,05) in Badung district. It means that if the fisherman perception to the shark conservation status in Badung district increased, so that the catch effort will be decrease.

Abstract

Thalassia hemprichii is one of the seagrass as favorite food of two protected herbivores such as Green Turtle and Dugong. The existence of Thalassia hemprichii and knowing the growth rate becomes very important for sustainability of two herbivores. The study was conducted in Tanjung Benoa waters that covering three parts of the coast such as Samuh, Conrad and Tanjung beach in February until March 2017. Thalassia hemprichii leaves growth is observed consist of long and heavy growth (dry weight) and measured leaf age that has been observed such as young, half old and old leaves. The method that used to measure the growth of Thalassia hemprichii is pruning method and determination the research location using purposive sampling method. The aim of this research is explained the growth rate, biomass, and productivity of young leaves, old leaves of Thalassia hemprichii in Tanjung Benoa Bali. Measurement results of Thalassia hemprichii growth between age group of leaves has different young leaves faster growth if compared with the half old leaves and old leaves with average growth is 3.41mm/day indicates that the efficiency of this seagrass growth will decrease as the leaves age. The highest biomass values ??were found in older leaves if compared with young leaves and half-old leaves with average 0.205 gbk/m2 expected because the thick and wide leaf size will produced larger leaf biomass. The highest productivity value is found in oldest leaves in each station with average 0.028 gbk/m2/day expected morphology and different nutrient content in each leaf tissue.

Abstract

Abalone is an important non fishery commodity that has high potential value to be developed. Abalone culture still faces some problems, such as, relatively slow growth rate, low survival rate and causing environmental pollution. One of the efforts to tackle the problems, is applying the culture system that is environmental friendly, such as IMTA (Integrated Multitrophic Aquaculture). This research aims to identify the growth rate and survival rate of the abalone (Haliotis squamata) and the suitability of chemical and physical environment parameter supporting the integration culture of abalone and seaweed (Gracilaria sp) on different stocking density at Geger beach, Nusa Dua, Bali. This research was performed in 45 days using a complete randomized design method that consist of three treatments and three repetition. The result showed that the highet growth rate was on treat ment T3 which consisted of abalone (Haliotis squamata) 40 individu and 10 bunches of seaweed (Gracilaria sp) 100 grams weight/each individu (0.76%/day), then It followed by T2 treatment that was integrated with 10 bunches of seaweed 50 grams (0.71%/day). The lowest growth rate observed on treatment T1 (control/monoculture) which consisted of 40 individu abalone (Haliotis squamata) (0.59%/day). The highest survival rate found on treatment T2 (97.5%) and followed by treatment T1 as control (94.5%), while the lowest number was found on treatment T3 (83.3%). Physical chemical water quality parameters showed that It supported the growth of both, abalone (Haliotis squamata) and seaweed (Gracilaria sp.) at Geger Beach, Nusa Dua, Badung Regency, Bali Province.

Abstract

Plankton is one of the biological resources that have an important role in the marine ecosystem. Plankton life is strongly influenced by the water quality parameters, one of which is the content of nutrients (nitrates and phosphates). Increased nutrient content caused by the increased load input from human activities. Serangan Island waters including the coastal ecosystem is widely used for a variety of human activities, such as tourism, aquaculture, residential, and transportation. All human activity will affect water quality will lead to an increase in nutrients and organic matter which in turn can lead to changes in water quality chemical physics and structure of plankton. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship of the abundance and diversity of phytoplankton abundance and diversity of zooplankton and to know the physical parameters - chemical effect on the abundance of plankton. The method used is the Pearson correlation analysis to determine the relationship between abundance and diversity of phytoplankton abundance and diversity of zooplankton, and principal component analysis to look at the parameters of the water the most influence on the abundance of plankton. Results of Principal Component Analysis showed that the waters of the parameters that influence the abundance of plankton varies at each observation station. Pearson correlation analysis showed a strong relationship between the abundance of phytoplankton to zooplankton abundance with a correlation value of 0.64.

Abstract

National Ocean Atmospheric Administrations (NOAA) by the program coral reef Watch (CRW) has developed a method to estimate the potential of coral bleaching using Sea Surface Temperature (SST). The products are hot spot (HS) and degree heating week (DHW). HS is the SST 1°C (SSTL?1) above normal and DHW is the length of HS inhabits a place. The CRW product do not provided detail informations because it has a lower resolution. It is need a satellite image with a higher resolution to provide better informations. One of the satellite images that can be used is Moderate Resolution Imaging Spectroradiometer (MODIS) with a spatial resolution of 1 km. The purpose of this study was to know HS and DHW distribution patterns and status of coral bleaching in Bali waters seen from the analysis of HS and DHW. MODIS data is used daily, then do mosaicing process to get a weekly SPL (8 daily) and the monthly SST. Monthly SPL normally used to get maximum montly mean (MMM). HS obtained from the difference between 8 daily weekly SST and SST normal (MMM).).Location bleaching based on data Coral Triangle Center (CTC) and coralwatch.org. SST results revealed difference of SPL in 2015 and 2016 amounted to 1.48°C. Highest DHW in Bali Hai, Nusa Penida is 10 465° C-weeks in April 2016. Based on the value HS and DHW coral reefs in Bali waters threatened bleaching level Alert 1 and Alert level 2.

Abstract

Halophila ovalis is a type of seagrass that has a round oval shape that can live in waters that have a muddy sand substrate. Morphometric and meristic are used to describe the waters where seagrass life seen from the morphology of leaves, rhizomes and roots. Morphometrics is a measure to determine the quantitative morphology of an organism structure and Meristik is a calculation to know the sum of a part of an organism. This research was conducted in December 2016-February 2017 with purposive sampling method at 10 observation station in Serangan Island and Tanjung Benoa. Data analyzed with descriptive analysis, Sturges criteria and Similarity Index of Morisita. Based on the results of leaf length study ranged from 9.4-51.3 mm, leaf width ranged from 6.7-19.8 mm, the number of leaf bones ranged from 10- 21 pairs, the length of the petiole ranges from 4.5 to 55.6 mm, the diameter of the petiole ranged from 0.03 - 1.4 mm, the length of rhizoma ranged from 6.2- 41.2 mm, diameter of rhizoma ranged from 0.04 -1.8 mm and root length ranged from 7.5-89 mm. By categorizing morfometrik-meristic seagrass H. ovalis, hence formed value of each research station gaze which will describe similarity between stations. In the similarity index of morisita, the research station in Serangan and Tanjung Benoa waters has similarity of morphometry - meristic very similar to 92.8% equality.
