Abstract

The aim of this experiment is to evaluate the nutrient quality of leucaena leaf meal (LLM) with addition of sheep rumen fluid enzyme for nile tilapia feed and incubated in vitro either for 2 or 24 hours. This experiment was arranged in a completely randomized design with 6 treatments and 3 replications. Those treatments were enzyme levels of 0, 20, 40, 60, 80, and 100 ml/ kg LLM. Results showed that nutrient quality of LLM with addition of sheep rumen fluid enzyme that incubated for 24 hours had the best result compared to that incubated for 2 hours. This finding significantly affected (PO.05) on the increase of sugar release (76.97%), soluble glucose (21.27%) and soluble protein (37.7%). It is concluded that sheep rumen fluid enzyme has a great potential for improving nutritional quality of leucaena leaf meal of fish feed.

Abstract

It has been known that upland rice production is lower than low land rice production because it is inhibited by soil fertility, water supply and pest. One solutions to increase the production of upland rice is by applying the potential soil microorganism known as mycorrhizae. The objective of this research is to know thef Vesicular Arbuscular Mycorrhizae (VAM) role for upland rice under water stress condition. The research was conducted in greenhouse of Cikabayan, Bogor Agricultural University and Soil Microbiology Laboratory of Research Centre of Biotechnology, Indonesian Institute of Science Centre. The experimental design was factorial randomized block design with two factors. The first factor is inoculation of mycorrhizae consisted of two treatment i.e. without mycorrhizae (MO) and with mycorrhizae (Ml); while the second factor is water stress regime consisted of five treatments namely well watered (SO), water stress on tillering stage (SI), primordial stage (S2), anthesis stage(S3) and grain filling stage(S4). Mycorrhizae significantly increased root infection, phosphate uptake, height, number of tillering, leaf, Leaf Area Index (LAI), productive tillering, filled grain, grain weight and yield. While, water stress significantly decreased number of root infection, shoot wet fresh weight, root dry weight, increased phosphate uptake and sterilized grain, but it didn't significantly decrease yield. The interaction both mycorrhizae and water stress didn't significantly influence all variables, except the root dry weight. The inoculation of mycorrhizae could increase 19.62% on SI, 17.32% on S2, 29.14% on S3, 6.89% on S4 dried harvested yield.

Abstract

Vegetation analysis of trees in Harapan Rainforest, PT.REKI, Jambi, was conducted on October-November 2009. Two 50m x 100m (0,5 ha) plots were established to obtain primary data for analysis. Plot one was made in the area of Medium Secondary Forest and plot two in the area of High Secondary Forest. Results shows that, the number of tree species were recorded from the two plots was 205 species from 550 individual trees with a total Basal Area (BA)= 64.75 m2. Plot one has 123 species from 284 individuals with BA = 10.82 m2 and Diversity Index (H')= -1.87. Bellucia axinanthera was recorded as the dominant species with Importance Value (IV)= 37.21%. Meanwhile, plot two has 126 species from 266 individuals with BA= 53.93 m2 and (H')= -1.97. Shorea acuminata was recorded as the dominant species with IV= 12.93%. Plot two (High Secunder Forest) has higher diversity of tree species than plot one (Medium Secunder Forest). The structure and composition of vegetation between plot one and plot two is different with similarity index for the two plots is only 21.46%.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to study storage duration of potato, temperature and drying duration on the quality of Granola potato chips. This research was conducted at Postharvest Laboratory of Indonesian Vegetable Research Institute from May to November 2009. A Randomized Complete Block Design was used with two replications. First factor was storage duration of potato: 1 day, 4 and 7 days. Second factor was temperature: 40°C, 50°C and 60°C. Third factor was drying duration (16, 18, and 20 hours). The result showed that storage period of 1 day, drying temperature at 50°C for 20 hours gave the best quality of potato chip with better consumer preference. Good storage period of raw material, drying condition with appropiate temperature and time of drying could produce good quality of potato chip.
