Abstract

H. IMAMUDDIN. 1987.The failure of pods and seeds development of Bauhinia tomentosa L. Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 35 - 37.Microscopic,observation to study the failure of pods and seeds development of Bauhinia tomentosa L. was conducted.Several buds,6 - 21 mm long, were diserved with paraffin method. The results showed that the failure of pods and seeds development of B. tomentosa were not caused by either flower morphology, pollen fertility or nticrospore development, but by abnormal development of saccus embrionalis, followed by incomplete development of egg cell, which made the flowers aborted before receptive.

Abstract

DARJONO & DEWI MALIA PRAWIRADILAGA 1987. Effect of level of Phaseolus lunatus seeds in the native chicken ration on feed consumption, and body weight gain Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 :61 -65. The experiment was aimed to obtain a basic guide of the amount of P., lunatus in chicken ration during growing period. Observation using 25 cockerels and 25 pullers, was based on Completely Randomized Design. The treatment consisted of level of P. lunatus in the ration, namely RK (as control ration), RI, RII, RIII, and RIV, containing 0%, 5%, 10%, 15%, and 20% respectively. Data was analyzed using Analysis of Variant, and the difference was tested by Honestly Significant Different Test. The results showed that the level of P. lunatus up to 20% had no significant effect (P > 0,05), on feed consumption and body weight gain during growing period. The highest feed efficiency for the cockerels was RI (0,0593) followed by RK (0,0559), RIII (0,0506), RIV (0,0478), and RII (0,0350) respectively; whereas for the pullets was RII (0,0267) followed by RK (0,0262), RI (0,0225), RIII (0,0220), and RIV (0,0102) respectively.

Abstract

RAZALI YUSUF.1987.The influence of Phytophthora colocasiae on distribution of Colocasia esculenta varieties in Jawa island. Suppl.Berita Biologi 3 : 17 - 19.Field observation on varieties of Colocasia esculenta var.esculenta and C.esculenta var.antiquorum showed that the distribution of these two botanical varieties has distinct pattern. The population of C.esculenta var.esculenta are more prevalent in the lowland, whereas the population of C.esculenta var.antiquorum are confined to higher elevations.Differences in their succeptibility to the attack of the fungus Phytophthora colocasiae'it one important factor which determines the natural distribution of these two botanical varieties.

Abstract

SIH KAHONO, L.E. PUDJIASTUTI &. M. AMIR. 1987. Insect visitors on Acacia villosa Willd. Suppl. Berita Biologi. 3 : 70 - 71 Insect visitors on Acacia villosa Willd. (Leguminosae) has been observed at 10 flowering plants at Cibinong, Bogor. Observation were made at 6 a.m.-6 p.m. by means of collecting insects that visit the flowers of A. villosa for 30 minute with the interval time collection of 2 hours. There were found Hymenoptera (17 species), and followed by Lepidoptera (7 species) and Diptera (3 species). The community sturcture of the insect visitors at interval of 2 hours are varies, the number increased toward the mid day, and gradually declined in the evening. This fluctuation is probably due to the nectar content during the day.

Abstract

SUCIATMIH Y.INDIARTO.1987.Morphology of mycorrhizal fungi in grass roots.Suppl.Berita Biologi 3 : 26 - 30.Visual examination of roots of grass species collected from the surrounding of Herbarium Bogoriense building and Baranangsiang has shown that the main infecting organisme are Phycomycete endophytes of the vesicular arbuscular type.It was attempted to assess morphology of fungi in the grass roots.External mycelium displays dimorphism. There are thick walled asceptate hyphae and thin-walled septate External vesicles may be formed singly and are sometimes furnished with a rudimentary hyphae Root penetration takes place by hyphae entering either epidermal cells or root hairs. The internal mycelia in grasses correspond to descriptions of similar endophytes in other plants. Internal vesicles are formed mainly in the outer cortical cell layers. In general, these are located both in interaeellular and intercellular position.Internal arbuscules are usually developed in the inner cortical cells. Each cell becomes occupied by an arbuscule.

H. SIMBOLON & SUKENDAR. 1987. Vegetation and soil conditions of forest in Lelofui, Mount Mutis, Soe, East Nusa Tenggara. Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 6 - 10.Research on vegetation and soil conditions of forest in Lelofui, Mount Mutis, Soe East Nusa Tenggara has been done. The density of trees were 358 per nectar; height of canopies ranged between 25 m and 35 m with Eucalyptus urophylla as a dominance species. The relative basal area of E. urophylla was 72,82% which was greater than total basal area of remaining species. The others important species were Podocarpus imbricates, Ilex odorata and Acer niveum. The density of saplings were 708 per hectar. The dominant species of this sapling was Daphniphyllum laurinum with the relative basal area of 69,93% The height of sapling species were less then 10 m. The other important species of saplings were Scutellaria discolor and Acer niveum. The plot consisted of 17 species of trees and 9 species of saplings. This species composition was very small comparing to other tropical rain forests elsewhere. This small number of species composition is suggested not directly correlated with a soil fertility.Soil analisis form the plot showed that its properties was not so distinct from other tropical rain forest soil conditions.

Abstract

S. HANDINI & S.P. WALUYO. 1987. Effect of level of Phaseolus lunatus seeds in the ration on the native chicken growth. Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 56- 60- The aims of this study was to obtain the level of Phaseolus lunatus to be given in the chicken ration without affecting their growth As many as 18 D.O.C. native chickens were used in this experiment. The experiment was based on Completely Randomized Design. The level of P. lunatus used in the ration as the treatment were : RK (Q%P. lunatus-?& the control ration); R I (5% P. lunatus); R II (10%/>.lunatus); R III (15% P.lunatus) and R IV (20% P. lunatus). Data obtained were analyzed using Analysis of Variance; and the Honestly Significants Different (HSD) and Duncan test were used to test the differences. The resul showed that the treatment had high significan effect on testes weight (P< 0,01); and a significants effect on body weight gain (P <C 0,05), feed consumption (P<! 0,05) and ovarium and pancreas weight (P < 0,05).On the other hand, there was no significant effect (P >0,05) to the feed conversions, water consumption and total amount of faece blood, volume and the head, tarsus, oesophagus and drum stick weights.

Abstract

G. PANGGABEAN, H. ROCHAENI, I. VIVANINGDIAH & P. CITROREKSOKO. 1987. The effect of KM11O4 on physical and chemical consituents during the ripening of "pisang ambon" Suppl. Berita Biologi 3 : 11 - 16.The experiments were conducted in order to study the effect of potassium permanganate (KMnO) on the physical characteristic and biochemical constituents of the pisang Ambon at difference stage of maturity such as 70, 80 and 90 days. The concentrations of the KMnO4 were 0, 75, 100 and 125 ppm.The parameters of the physical characteristic were the colour, moisture content and the firmness of the fruits. While the biochemical constituents were the reducing sugar, caroten and the vitamin C content. The results of the treatment indicated that the colour, moisture content and firmness almost similar to the fruits as the control. The reducing sugar fruits of the age 70 days with the treatment of KMnO4 75 ppm was higher than that of the fruits of the age 80 and 90 days. However, all the fruits which were treated with KMnO4 had no affect on the caroten content.Meanwhile, the vitamin C content of the treated fruits were lower than that of the fruits without treatment. The pH of ripening fruits were not significantly difference between treated and untreated fruits.
