Abstract

N. SETYOWATMNDARTO,1987.The effect of dipping in Ethrel solution on ripening rate and quality of pisang Ambon (Musa paradisiaca LINN) fruits. Suppl.Berita Biologi 3 : 20 - 25.The solution of ethrel for dipping were 750 pprn, 1000 ppm and it were dipped for 2, 4, 8 minutes and control (untreated). The results showed that the treatment accelerated the ripening of pisang Ambon faster 9-1 1 days than control. These werehighly significant difference according to Duncan's multiple range test, P = 1%.The observation indicated that the colour changes, firmness and vitamin C contents did not significanly difference compared to control on every stage of the ripening So that to accelerate ripening of pisang Ambon was recommended to use 750 ppm ethrel solution for 2 minutes.

Abstract

MUSTAID SIREGAR. 1987.The comparison of ground vegetation under four forest plantations in Candikuning, Bali. Suppl. BeritaBiologi. 3: 45-50.The ground vegetation under four forest plantations of different species in Candikuning (Altingia excelsa, Manglietia glauca, Agathis dammara, Pinus merkusiij have been investigated by using quadrat method. The results showed that the highest index of similarity was 53,06% between A. dammara and P. merkusii plantations, and the lowest index of similarity was 18,21% between A. excelsa and P. merkusii plantations. The species composition and community stability of these ground vegetations under "each plantation differed. The community of ground vegetation under A.excelsa plantation was more diverse and stable than the others. The ground vegetation under M. glauca, A.dammara and P.merkusii plantations were dominated by herbs, while under A. excelsa plantation were dominated by seedling of trees, that originated from A. excelsa stand and others surrounding tree species.

Abstract

D.D. SASTRAATMADJA, 1987. Testing of rice meal inoculum in the fields Suppl.Berita Biologi 3:1-5.With the aim of testing and using of inoculum by users, studies of the using of inoculum rice powder for oncom production have been carried out.The experiment utilized different kinds of inoculum which contained some strains of Neurospora spp., Mucor spp.,and Rhizopus spp.have been done at several places of oncom producers in Bandung and Bogor. The quality of products were evaluated by analyzing of organoleptic test, texture and growth of mold comparing with local oncom. The results obtained in the experimentshowed that product made by using one strain of Neurospora spp., more liked moderately and having good mold growth, finely conpact and soft texture comparing with the other products and local red oncom in Bandung and Bogor.Besides that all of the strains of Mucur spp., produced good quality of oncom comparing with local black oncom. But all of the strains of Rhizopus spp., did not capable making good quality cf oncom. About the utilizingof powder inoculum by users in general must be fuether more investigated.

Abstract

SIH KAHONO, L.E. PUDJIASTUTI &. M. AMIR. 1987. Insect visitors on Acacia villosa Willd. Suppl. Berita Biologi. 3 : 70 - 71 Insect visitors on Acacia villosa Willd. (Leguminosae) has been observed at 10 flowering plants at Cibinong, Bogor. Observation were made at 6 a.m.-6 p.m. by means of collecting insects that visit the flowers of A. villosa for 30 minute with the interval time collection of 2 hours. There were found Hymenoptera (17 species), and followed by Lepidoptera (7 species) and Diptera (3 species). The community sturcture of the insect visitors at interval of 2 hours are varies, the number increased toward the mid day, and gradually declined in the evening. This fluctuation is probably due to the nectar content during the day.

Abstract

H. SUTARNO & R. RASYANI. 1987. Morphogeneses and physiological maturity of jambu bangkok (Psidium guajava L.) fruits.Berita Biologi 3(7) : 326 - 329. Studies on nVorphogeneses and physiological maturity of jampu bangkok fruits were carried out from grown i plants in Bogor. Fruits developed from oval to round and nerly egg shape with fruit diameter at about 100 - 110 mm for 18 - 25 weeks. Moisture content and softness of fruits increased slowly at the early time of ripening, but respiration rate increased obviously during period of shape development and ripening. Optimal yield was obtained, when harvesting at the last time of fruit enlargment, i.e. 18 weeks from blooming.

Abstract

SUCIATMIH Y.INDIARTO.1987.Morphology of mycorrhizal fungi in grass roots.Suppl.Berita Biologi 3 : 26 - 30.Visual examination of roots of grass species collected from the surrounding of Herbarium Bogoriense building and Baranangsiang has shown that the main infecting organisme are Phycomycete endophytes of the vesicular arbuscular type.It was attempted to assess morphology of fungi in the grass roots.External mycelium displays dimorphism. There are thick walled asceptate hyphae and thin-walled septate External vesicles may be formed singly and are sometimes furnished with a rudimentary hyphae Root penetration takes place by hyphae entering either epidermal cells or root hairs. The internal mycelia in grasses correspond to descriptions of similar endophytes in other plants. Internal vesicles are formed mainly in the outer cortical cell layers. In general, these are located both in interaeellular and intercellular position.Internal arbuscules are usually developed in the inner cortical cells. Each cell becomes occupied by an arbuscule.
