Abstract

Haryoko, T. 2008. Effect of density in cage upon feed intake and nutrition level inTrichoglossus haematodus. Zoo Indonesia 17(1):21-26. Trichoglossus haematodusis Psittacidae family which have diet on nectar. Inballance on nutrition contents orincomplete diet is a common problem in birds captivity. The aim of this researchwas to study the effect of bird density in cage upon feed intake and nutrition level. The research was conducted from April to July 2006. Bird density in each cage was2, 3 and 9 birds. The composition of diet consisted of 4.7% protein,1.3% fat, 1.5%crude fiber, 0.19% calsium, 0.17% fosfor and 1,256 kkal metabolism energy. Feedintake for Group A was 87.65 g/bird/day, group B was 80.37 g/bird/day and Group Cwas 81.92 g/bird/day, respectively. The result showed a correlation between bird’sdensity and feed intake as the density increased birds got less amount of food andnutrition.

Abstract

Suyanto, A. 2008. Biodiversity of small mammals in Gunung Lumut protectedforest, Pasir District, East Kalimantan. Zoo Indonesia 17(1): 1-6. Survey on thesmall mammals biodiversity was conducted by trapping, mistnetting, harp trapping, and interview in the Protected Forest of Gunung Lumut, District of Pasir, EastKalimantan Province for three weeks on November-December 2005. The surveyresulted 110 specimens representing 18 species, and from the interview resultedadditional information of six species, bringing the total number of observed smallmammals was 20.5 % of the total small mammals known lived in Kalimantan. Fourspecies of small mammals were endemic to Kalimantan and three species wereprotected by Indonesian Law. The result of survey was expected to support thechange of status from protected forest to national park.

Abstract

Suwito, A. 2008. The Mosquito (Diptera: Culicidae) of Boganinani WartaboneNational Park, North Sulawesi: Diversity, Status and Habitat. Zoo Indonesia17(1):27-34. Mosquitoes need suitable habitats for the development of larvae. Larvaehabitats were identified and characterized at three locations: Mauk-Molotong River &Mainakum in Boganinani Wartabone National Park, and Mount Pakinya near PusianVillage out side from national park. Larvae were collected from bamboo stump, treeholes or puddle on the stones, while adults were collected using insect net and lighttrap especially in Mount Pakinya. Totally twenty two species of mosquitoes from sevengenera were identified morphologically. Species of Anopheles spp. and Culex spp.were the most dominant in Mount Pakinya. The conversion of forest becomes padifield and villages would rise new habitats of breeding sites, that finally would changethe distribution and composition of mosquitoes.

Dahrudin, H & Wirdateti. 2008. Feed plants species and nesting trees of coucang(Nycticebus coucang) in Merratus protected forest, South Kalimantan. ZooIndonesia 17(1):7-14. A Survey on the feed plants species selection and nesting treesof coucang (Nycticebus coucang) in the Protected Forest of Merratus Mountains,South Kalimantan, was conducted for two weeks in April to May 2007. The surveyused exploration method and herbarium of the feedd plants were collected. From thestudy 54 plants were identified, four plants were used as their nesting trees, and 33plants were used as feed source.

Abstract

Heryanto. 2008. Ecology of mangrove moluscs in Delta Mahakam, EastKalimantan. Zoo Indonesia 17(1):15-20. A survey on the ecology of mangrovemolusc in Delta Mahakam, East Kalimantan was conducted for two weeks. Collectionsof gastropods were conducted along the transect line developed for botany study.Result had collected 20 species of gastropods, which was represented the westernIndonesia pattern, hence it accommodates less variety of gastropods. The numberwas also influenced by the forest condition. When the forest was in good condition, species number of gastropods (≈biodiversity) live in forest was high and vice versa.
