Abstract

This experiment was designed to study the impact of mammary carcinogenesis induced by 7,12-dimetilbenz (?) antracene (DMBA) on histopathological features of the gastric in Sprague Dawley rat.Eight female Sprague Dawley (SD) rats, of four week-old, were used in this study. The rats were randomlydivided into 2 groups of four. Group I were treated orally with 20 mg/kg BW of 7,12-dimetilbenz (?)antracene (DMBA) treatment, twice a week for 5 weeks. Group II were used as negative control withoutDMBA treatment. At 5 week after the end DMBA of, the rats of the both groups were sacrificed and thegastric were fixed in 10% buffer formalin. Subsequently, tissue sections were stained with hematoxylinand eosin (H&E) for microscopic examination. The results of the experiment show that oral administrationof DMBA (20 mg/kg BW) twice a week, for 5 weeks result in epithelial hyperplasia of cardia. Hemorrhagicand inflammation reactions are also found on the mucous membrane of fundic. However, macroscopicexamination shows no specific changes of the gastric. Histopathological changes were suspected as a precancer lesion of the gastric due to chronic exposure of DMBA.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to determine the reproduction performance of local does in which theirestrous was induced by short synchronization system. In this study 10 healthy female, unpregnant andhave relatively homogenous body weights were used. All does were devided into 2 experiment groups.Group 1 consisted of 4 does as control and group II consisted of 6 does as treatment. Group I, were injectedwith 125 ?g cloprostenol intramuscular, twice in 11 days interval. Group II, was treated with shortsynchronization using 125 ?g cloprostenol intramuscular, and then followed by injection of 300 IU hCGand 0.5 mg estradiol benzoate after 12 hours later. The does were inseminated 10 hours after onset ofestrous and repeated 12 hours later. Parameters measured were oestrous percentage, pregnancy, andlitter size. Results showed that all does (100%) from both groups showed estrous. Percentage of pregnantdoes group I and II were 75.00% and 83.33% respectively, and the averages litter size were 2.0 ± 1.0 and 1.4± 0.3, respetively. Treatment with short synchronization can increase pregnancy and delivered percentagealthough litter size not affected.

Abstract

Domestic chickens tend to consume lead (Pb) from their contaminated environment especially in freerangingchickens. Feet of domestic chickens are commonly consumed by many people, making them goodbioindicator to be analyzed for environmental monitoring and food safety purposes. Accumulation of leadin feet and parts of feet (tarsometatarsus bones, digiti, and skin-muscles) were investigated in this study.The average concentrations of lead in whole feet, tarsometatarsal bones, digiti, and skin-muscles were 3.4,3.8, 3.3, and 1.9 ?g.g-1 d.m., respectively. The average amount of Pb accumulated in chicken feet ranges from25.5 to 74.7 ?g. Consumption of 0.5 – 2 chicken feet. A day-1 (low – high intake) results in the exposure of 4,8to 111,5 ?g. individual-1.day-1, which was much higher than the daily exposure standar of 1 ?g. individual-1. day-1. However, very low intake (< 0.1 chicken feet.day-1) results in exposure lower than the recommendedexposure standard. More frequent monitoring and exposure assessment combined with the awareness ofgeneral public on lead contamination in the environment are important for minimizing the risk of leadexposure to human through chicken feet consumption.

Abstract

Purpose of the research was to study the correlation between the gestation period with sex and birthweight of new born calves as the result of artificial insemination (AI) in bali cattle. Data were collecteddirectly from AI technicians in some districts in the province of bali from 1997 to 2003. A total, of 10759inseminated cows and 799 of which were with completed data of, date of birth, birth weight and sex ofcalves. The data were collected from 3 districts, involving Gianyar (205 samples), Badung (221 samples)and Bangli (373 samples). Result showed that the gestation period of bali cows were 284.4±5.7 days andbirth weight of 18.4±1.6 kg. Sex ratios (male : female) of bali calves resulted from AI in 1997 to 2003 were1.2:1. There were positive correlation between gestation period and birth weight (P>0.01) as well asbetween gestation period and sex of calves with a high correlation coefficient (0.075) which proved thatmale calves had longer gestation period than females.

Abstract

To avoid population booming, family planning program should be maintained in which menand woman have the same rights and obligations. However in execution of family planning the roleof men is still low. Studies about contraception in men are limited. Male contraception that isknown in society are condom and vasectomy. In the recent few years in particular, researcheshave been refocused on investigating traditional plants as anti fertility. In use researches manyplants have been studied, including papaya seed. Some researches on herbal anti fertility propertiesof papaya seed have been carried out including those on the active compounds of anti fertility, onapprolaki-lakite dosage of extract of carica papaya seed by animal experiments. Hexane fraction ofunripe papaya seed extract contains glycosides, alkaloid and triterpenoids, which is assumed hasan antifertility effect, so it can be used as a male contraceptive, although the mechanism of actionis not yet clear. Research is conducted at Animal Laboratory Unit Department of PharmacologyFaculty of Medicine University of Udayana, and Laboratorium Patologi Balai Penyidikan danPengujian Veterian (BPPV) Wilayah VI Denpasar Direktorat Jenderal Peternakan, DepartmentPertanian. This study used the pre-test and post-test control group design, using 30 male mice ofbalb C strain, aged 12 weeks, weight 20-22 gram, subsequently grouped by random into 3 groupseach consisting of 10 male mice. One control group (P0 = control group) was given double distilledwater, and two treatment groups (P1 = treatment group) was given fraction of the hexane extractof young Carica papaya seed 20 mg/20gram Body wieght/day, (P2 = treatment group) was givenfraction of the methanol extract of young Carica papaya seed 20 mg/20 gram/day). After 36 days oftreatment, evaluation of the testis, of the male mice was conducted. Data were analysed by normalitytest of Shapiro-will, homogeneity test, and Anova test. This study showed that cells of spermatogoniaA decreased significantly (p < 0,01). It is concluded that hexan fraction and methanol fraction ofunripe carica papaya seeds extract can decrease spermatogonia A cell of male mice (mus musculus).

Abstract

Research was conducted at Bukit Jimbaran, Badung Bali from September to October 2007 to investigatethe lenght and circular body dimension of Bali cattle. Ten young male bali cattle 0.5-1.5 year old weremeasured for three times at 2 weeks interval. Collected data was analysed with regretion-corelation byallometric growth lines Y = aXb. F test and coeficient-correlation was then used to chek the validity andacurate models. Result showed that the lenght head, neck, body anterior and posterior had medium potentialgrowth. Circular neck anterior grew early with a high potential. The circular neck posterior growth potentialwas medium, where as circular thorax and abdomen was law poitential growth.

Abstract

The objective of the research was to study the effect of panhisterectomy and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3supplement consumption for 1.5 months on Ca retention of Wistar rats fed with casein. Twenty female ofWistar rats, 8 weeks of age were randomly divided into four groups (normal group N and NK,panhisterectomized group H and HK) in wich group consisted of 5 rats. Group N and H rats were fed witha standard diet, while group NK and HK rats were fed with a standard diet+1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3supplement. At 19 weeks of age, they were placed into individual metabolic cages for balance studies.From day 7 to 11 of the balance studies, daily unconsumed food, urine, and feces were collected andrecorded for Ca analyses. The research results showed that Ca comsumption and fecal Ca excretion weresignificantly higher (P<0.05) in panhisterectomized rats consuming 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 supplement,as compared with the normal rats consuming 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 supplement. Urinary Ca excretionand Ca retention in panhisterectomized rats were not significantly different those of normal rats. WhileCa consumption and fecal Ca excretion were significantly reduced (P<0.05) in normal rats consuming 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 supplement but urinary Ca excretion and Ca retention in normal rats consuming1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 supplement were not significantly different compare with normal rats notconsuming 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 supplement. It is evident that panhisterectomy and 1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3 supplement did not affect the calcium retention.

Abstract

Duddingtonia flagrans is selected nematophagous fungi as biological control to nematode worm. Theaim of this research was to show that the survival of in vitro tested to D. flagrans mold growth is effectedby artificial saliva, rumen fluid, enzymes and agar-cement and comin block applicator. The testing wasdone two steps : Firstly the conidia’s was multicated and the secondly the growth of D.flagrans tested insaliva, rumen fluid and comin block, agar cement applicator. The result showed that mold could surviveand grow in condition such as in gastrointestinal fluid of sheep and in comin block and in agar-cementapplicator (1 and 2%). It can be concluded that D. flagrans could grow in medium containing rumen fluid,saliva, enzymes and comin block and agar-cement applicator.

Abstract

The aim of the research is to study the correlation between the decreased of body weight asand the increase of egg production, after the forced molting stress program. As many as 180medium type chickens, strain Dekalb Warren, aged 84 weeks old were used. The desain applied2x2x2 factorial and used complete randomized design in 5 times replications each of whichconsisted 4 chickens. The first factors were water supply and without water supply. The secondfactor was the duration of no feeding for 10 and 5 days. The third factor was the amount of feedgiven during recovery period, that was 50% and 25% of the normal consumption. The total of thetreatment of forced molting program applied were 9 treatments. The data obtained were analysedusing analysis of variance (anova), orthogonal comparison test and regression analysis. Theperformance and the mortality were also observed. The result showed that the treatment couldincreased egg production significantly and repaired layer performance with low mortality. It istherefore concluded that the increase of the egg production had no correlation with the decreaseof body weight in forced molting program.

Abstract

Tengger’s horse (Equus caballus) is a local Indonesian horse an originated from its ancestor in Java.As the population of Tengger’s horse is almost extinct it is important to conserve and increase the horsepopulation by in situ or ex situ conservation.The objective of this research was to study the moleculargenetic of partial D-loop of Tengger’s horse. Sequencing of PCR product, showed that the D-loop consistedof 319 nucleotides. The DNA was isolated from whole blood and amplified and sequenced using a publishedprimer sets. The sequence was aligned and compared with horse D-loop sequences available in Genebankusing Clustal W method in MEGA program version 4.0.2. Ten different nucleotide sites were found inTengger horse from (nucleotide no. 9, 52, 64, 69, 102, 117, 133, 170, 187 and 293). The genetic distanceanalised using Kimura 2-parameter model ranged between 0,0% and 3,2%, with the average of 1,7%. Thephylogenetic tree using neighbor joining method based on the sequence of nucleotide partial D-loop couldnot be used to differentiate among horse from Tengger and E. caballus.
