Abstract

This study aims to carry herbal tea resources mapping on the community forest of Gapoktanhut Puncak Semaring at Mekar Sari Village. There are three steps in this study. The first step is mapping the forest using Locus-GIS application. The second step is herbal tea resources observation. The third step is Gapoktanhut member interview about herbal tea plant resources utilization on their forest. Based on the observation, 13 species of herbal tea resources have been found in four regions of the Gapoktanhut Society forest. These species are pandan, curcuma, cinnamon, cocoa, lemongrass, galangal, clove, ginger, betel, coffee, avocado, and strobilanthes. Ginger and curcuma are the only species that have been utilized as an herbal drinks. The other species have been utilized as a seasoning, traditional medicine, animal feed, and plant fence. It could be concluded that Gapoktanhut Puncak Semaring has a potential herbal tea resources species but only utilized 15% of them.

Abstract

Social forestry is a sustainable forest management system as one of the Government's programs in the context of economic equality and reducing poverty levels with a forest target of 12.7 million hectares to be managed by the community. One of the keys to the success of the social forestry program is the availability of social forestry facilitators to facilitate the three social forestry governance systems, namely institutional governance, regional governance, and business governance. The success of social forestry facilitation is not only determined by the quantity of facilitators, but also by the quality of the facilitators. The research was conducted to determine the role of social capital in social forestry facilitation in Maluku Province. As many as 33 respondents from the 2022 facilitators filled out a questionnaire covering three main elements of social capital, namely trust, social networks, and social norms with data analysis using a Likert scale. The results showed that the index number was 91,69% and could be classified in the high assessment category with a total score of 1,180. This shows that social capital has an important role in facilitating social forestry in Maluku Province. Thus, the application of good social capital will be able to empower the community and be very influential in the success of social forestry facilitation.

Abstract

Global warming has a huge negative impact on all living things, both humans, animals and plants. The cause of global warming is due to an increase in the concentration of carbon dioxide (CO2). Agroforestry pattern community forests have a good role in efforts to reduce gas emissions in the atmosphere. Vegetation found in community forests can absorb carbon through photosynthesis and release carbon through respiration, in the process of photosynthesis vegetation produces O2 and energy and some is stored in the form of biomass. This study aims to determine the potential of biomass and carbon stored in agroforestry-patterned community forests in Polewali Mandar District, West Sulawesi. Data collection was carried out in 9 villages in Bulo District with a total of 27 plots measuring 20 x 20 m. The data collected included tree diameter, tree height and tree species. data analysis using allometric equations according to tree species to obtain biomass values. while for the stored carbon value obtained from biomass products of 0.47. The results showed that the plant that dominated the highest value of biomass and carbon was durian. The total biomass in the community forest with the agroforestry pattern in Polewali Mandar Regency is 90.62 ton/ha while the total value of stored carbon is 42.59 ton/ha.

Abstract

Traditional communities that live side by side with forest have institutions that regulate the relationship between humans and humans and humans with nature. The Talang Mamak tribe is a traditional community that still lives in and around the Bukit Tiga Puluh National Park (TNBT) area. This study aims to identify the application of sustainable local institutional principles by the Talang Mamak Tribe in managing forest resources. Collecting data using observation methods, in-depth interviews, and literature studies. Sampling using snowball sampling method. Data analysis was carried out in a qualitative descriptive manner, and identified sustainable local institutions based on sustainable institutional principles designed by Ostrom. The results showed that the sustainable institutional principles applied in forest resources management by the Talang Mamak Tribe include: the rules of the technology used, conformity to local conditions, collective institutional arrangements, supervision, sanctions, conflict resolution mechanisms, recognition of management rights, and linkages with higher institutional levels. There are some rules that need to be clarified in the current local institutions because they do not regulate the time for utilization area, number of resource unit, and user limits.

Abstract

Merbau is a type of tree whose wood is classified as durable with durable class I-II and strong class I-II. Because of this durable and strong class, merbau wood is widely used in industry. This research was conducted with the aim of testing the effect of invigorating merbau seeds using matriconditioning and osmoconditioning methods. The study was conducted using a completely randomized design (CRD) with 6 levels of treatment, namely control, sawdust, husk charcoal, PEG, NaCl and KNO3. The research data were tested using ANOVA and Duncan's follow-up test. The results of the study. The results showed that invigoration treatment could increase the viability of merbau seeds on the observed variables of root length, height, and number of leaves. Of all the invigoration treatments, the best material in increasing the viability of soybean seeds was the matriconditioning treatment using sawdust.

Abstract

The mangrove forest ecosystem in East Kurau Village is a 148-hectare area that has the potential to reserve carbon. This research aims to identify the composition of mangrove vegetation types and analyze the potential for carbon stocks reserved in tree stands and sediments in the mangrove forest area in East Kurau Village. The method used to identify the composition of the mangrove vegetation types is a 10m x 10m plot. The tree biomass measurements were implemented using the no-logging method using allometric equations. The measurement of the sediment analysis was using Walkley & Black method. The result of the mangrove types composition in the East Kurau Village mangrove forest ecosystem consisted of 6 genuine/true species: Sonneratia alba, Rhizophora apiculata, Xylocarpus granatum, Acrostichum aureum, Bruguiera gymnorrhiza, and Bruguiera hainesii. The estimated carbon reserves in East Kurau Village's mangroves are 3.207, 29 tons/ha. The mangrove tree biomass of 57.966,57 kg/m2 and 18,44 % on the percentage of carbon content in the sediments.
