"Jurnal Energi dan Manufaktur" is a journal published by Department of Mechanical Engineering, University of Udayana, Bali since 2006. During 2006-2011 the journal's name was "Jurnal Ilmiah Teknik Mesin CAKRAM" (Scientific journal in mechanical engineering, CAKRAM). "Jurnal Energi dan Manufaktur" is released biannually on April and October, respectively. We invite authors to submit papers from experimental research, review work, analytical-theoretical study, applied study, and simulation, in related to mechanical engineering (energy, material, manufacturing, design) to be published through "Jurnal Energi dan Manufaktur".

Abstract

Preliminay research to convert diesel engine to utilize natural gas as main fuel has been conducted. For that purpose, an air-cooled single cylinder stationary diesel engine was converted to operate in a dual fuel combustion with CNG as the main fuel and diesel fuel as a pilot fuel. Diesel fuel was injected a few degree before TDC. The test was running in three modes, i.e. rated power  mode (3000 rpm), maximum torque mode (2000 rpm), and medium speed mode (2500 rpm). Cylinder pressure, rate of heat release, air consumption, CNG consumption and fuel consumption were investigated. The results show that the replacement of diesel fuel with CNG give a different effect on combustion for the three modes. Increased CNG-ratio up to 40% and 10% resulted in increasing average maximum cylinder pressure for maximum torque mode (2000 rpm) and medium speed mode (2500 rpm) respectively. On the other hand, increased CNG-ratio resulted in decreasing average maximum cylinder pressure for rated power mode (3000 rpm).

Abstract

Alloys containing principally copper and tin are considered as bronzes. These materials possess desirable properties of strength, wear resistance, and salt water corrosion. Bronzes materials are widely used such as for gears, bearings and other machine parts. These component parts work with relative movement, pressure, and friction on the contact surfaces, for long time will cause surface wear. To improve wear resistance and hardness of the contact surfaces, it needed to be plating by an electroplating method. This study is to find out the influence of plating thickness to the hardness on electroplating bronzes by chromium. The specimen is hollow cylindrical form of bronze with inner diameter 10 mm, outer diameter 30 mm and height 10 mm. Treatment variables are plating time, with variation of 30, 50, 70, 90, and 110 minutes. The dependent variable in this study is surface hardness. Specimens are made 3 items for each observation, so the total specimens are 15 items. The electrolyte used in this study is mixed of CrO3 (250 g/L), and H2SO4 (2.5 g/L), meanwhile electric current 50 Amperes and voltage 6 volts keep constantly during the process. The result can be concluded that there is a positive linear correlation between plating time with plating thickness, and plating thickness with surface hardness.

Abstract

In science of measurement, an error is defined as difference result of measurement and the real value of the measurand.Actually, this real value is never precisely identified; consequently, the error is unknowns as well. In this case, the error canonly be estimated without knowing its real quantity. If a value will be considered as an estimated error, this value should be taken as an uncertainty. Uncertainty of Vernier Calliper determined with Type A and Type B evaluation, then the combinedstandard uncertainty is determined. Vernier Calliper that calibrated with Gauge Block class 1, the maximum uncertainty is ± 3.27 µm in dimension of 12.7 mm, with 95% confidence level.

Abstract

During driving, vibration is one of some comfortable point. Vibration can appear as the result of road surface beside itsengine vibration. To decrease vibration caused road surface the vehicle was completed with shock breaker. This experiment was conducted in order to investigate the effect of vibration on the comfortable in driving. The shock breaker and body of vehicle will be modeled in single degree of freedom in the vibration system. By using two-model shock breaker standard and modification hence the model was tested, and then the results were applied to Janeway criteria to examine its comfortable. From both the experiment and calculation, it was found that the amplitude of standard and modification shock breakerexceeded the maximum allowable amplitude of Janeway comfortable criteria.

Abstract

Grinding is a very complex machining process due to many parameters to be considered. In this research, the effect of workpiece velocity and depth of cut toward performent of grinding such as actual depth of cut, force, power and specific energy to be investigated. Grinding process to be applyed is straight surface grinding with alumina and En9 as grinding wheel and workpiece respectivelly. Two independent variables to be condisioned, there are workpiece velocities ( 0,1, 0,2, and 0,3 m/s) and setting depth of cut (10, 20, 30, 40 and 50?m. The data obtained is evaluated by plooting into grapht. The results of experiment show that the higher depth of cut, the higher actual depth of cut obtained, however, the higher worcpice velocity, the lower depth of cut obtained; depth of cut and workpiece velocity are proportional to force, power and volume rate of metal removal; and specific energy is proportional to depth of cut but it is opposite to vorkpiece velocity.

Abstract

Wire and Tube heat exchanger consists of coiled tube, and wire attached on the both sides of tube in perpendicular direction on the tube. The ability of this heat exchanger to dissipate heat is shown by the overall surface efficiency from arrays of fins or called as heat exchanger efficiency. The wires which have a function as a fin is the expansion of the outer surface of tube, so its will extent the surfaces of natural convection heat transfer from heat exchanger to the outside surroundings. The goals of this research is to analyse the wire and tube heat exchangers efficiency by increasing the number of wires that would be attached on one side and both side of the tubes. There are three different design of wire and tube heat exchangers and that’s would be examined at three different level of mass flow rate ( 0.015 kg/s, 0.018kg/s and 0.021 kg/s). The fluid temperature entrance the system constant at 70oC. According to the theoretic, surfaces expansion of natural convection heat transfer will be increase the efficiency of heat exchangers. One of anyway how to extend the surface area of heat transfer is adds the wires. Increasing the number of wires expected influence the heat transfer rates, and it’s directly related to the efficiency of heat exchangers.

Abstract

Welding is a method used to joint metal or metal alloy that take heat energy from welding machine. On welding process, there is occurred the fusion between base metal with filled metal. In base metal, there is founded heat affected zone(HAZ) which to go throw heating and cooling cycles that produce the changes of microstructure of metal so that make mechanical behavior of material changes. This research discuss the affect of variation of electric current and welding speed on mechanical behavior of steel plate SS41 Grade A, that is for understanding the changes of toughness caused by welding process, so then could choice the right parameter welding and know the changes of material toughness. The method that used in this research is factorial experiment with two factor are electric current and welding speed. Based on research results, both of electric current and welding speed have real impact for toughness, where electric current more and more high make toughness decrease, afterward, welding speed more and more high make toughness increase.
