Abstract

Traditional medicine is a mixture of ingredients in the form of plant materials, animal materials, mineral materials, preparations (galenic), or a mixture of these materials that have been used for treatment for generations and can be applied in accordance with the norms prevailing in the community (Permenkes RI, 2010). Jamu gendong is a traditional medicine business that is not required to obtain a distribution licence in accordance with Ministry of Health Regulation No. 07 of 2012 on the registration of traditional medicines. This study was conducted to determine the presence of microbial contamination in the form of mould, yeast, and Salmonella bacteria in jamu gendong beras kencur and to assess the compliance of the results of microbial contamination tests for mould, yeast, and Salmonella bacteria in jamu gendong beras kencur in a microbiology laboratory in accordance with the requirements of the Indonesian Food and Drug Administration Regulation No. 12 of 2014.To determine the mould and yeast count in traditional herbal medicine, the pour plate method was used. Aseptic samples were taken in 10 ml or 10 g and placed in sterile containers, then 90 ml of LDF pH 7.2 or letheen broth was added, homogenised until a suspension with a dilution of 10-1 was obtained. Based on the results of the Yeast Count Test on traditional medicines with sample codes 25, 20, and 23, the AKK results met the requirements, which is in accordance with BPOM Regulation No. 12 of 2016.
