Abstract

Textile wastewater poses a significant environmental health risk due to it's complex composition, including multiple dyes, organic and inorganic salts and toxic effluent. Controlling these effluents is crucial for the economy and environmental protection. The Equalization Basin is a necessary facility for effective wastewater management. This study developed a Simulation equation to determine the load and volume of a combined wastewater flow. The Rippl diagram was used in determining the optimal Basin volume needed for a combined domestic and industrial wastewater (Textile Company) management. At 6000 cubic metres, the Basin can be operated with flexibility to meet discharge requirements with minimal hydraulic shock on the treatment plant enhancing treatment efficiency and also enough holding time to enable effluent discharge meeting existing limits. After a 5 days retention period, analytical experiment shows the BOD and COD of the discharged wastewater dropped from 175 and 280 to 25 and 160mg/litre respectively, the pH of the solution for 8.4 to 7.2 and the ionic concentration from 22 to 11.8mg/litre.
