Abstract

Proverbs 1:7 is one of the key verses in the Book of Proverbs that asserts, "the fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge." This verse has deep theological and literary significance, as well as relevance in shaping the character of young Christian generations amid the challenges of the modern era. This study aims to examine Proverbs 1:7 from a theological and literary perspective, and to apply its meaning in the context of shaping the character of young Christian generations. The method used is qualitative research with a literature study approach to the Bible and several theological sources. The research results show that the concept of "the fear of the Lord" is not merely fear, but an attitude of respect, submission, and living in obedience to God. Literarily, Proverbs 1:7 is part of wisdom literature that uses parallelisms to emphasize the contrast between wisdom and foolishness. In the context of character formation, the value of the fear of the Lord is the foundation for the development of integrity, discipline, and morality in young Christian generations.
