Abstract

Urban Heat Island (UHI) is a phenomenon where urban areas exhibit significantly higher surface temperatures compared to surrounding rural regions, driven by land use transformation and reduced vegetation cover. This study analyzes the UHI phenomenon in Samarinda City, East Kalimantan, using Landsat 9 OLI-2/TIRS-2 imagery (Collection 2, Level 2) processed through Google Earth Engine (GEE). The analysis covers May–October 2025 (dry season) using a median composite of two cloud-free scenes. Land Surface Temperature (LST) was extracted using the Single-Channel Algorithm with NDVI-based emissivity correction. Spectral indices NDVI, NDBI, and MNDWI were computed to examine their relationships with LST. UHI intensity was classified into five categories based on mean ± standard deviation thresholds. Results indicate a mean LST of 36.79°C (range: 12.35–60.69°C). High and Very High UHI classes cover 131.31 km² (21.13%) of the city area, concentrated in Samarinda Kota sub-district (mean LST 45.01°C). Correlation analysis using 90 random sampling points reveals NDBI as the strongest LST predictor (r = +0.72), while NDVI shows a moderate negative correlation (r = −0.35). These findings provide spatial evidence for urban heat mitigation strategies, particularly through green space enhancement and built-up density control in high-intensity UHI zones.

Abstract

The background of this research is due to the efforts to repair roads in Kutai Barat Regency, which are unevenly distributed. As a result, there are still many damaged road sections, including the Samarinda - Melak main road, thus necessitating a road condition assessment. The purpose of this research is to map the damage level of the Samarinda - Melak axis road. This research requires understanding in the field of geomatics to carry out measurement and mapping activities. The method used in the measurement activities is the tachimetry method which is then processed using Autocad Civil 3D, while checking road conditions is carried out directly at the measurement location. The results obtained in this study are a map of road damage, cross-sectional maps, and the level of road damage. The results show that the classification of damage on the Samarinda - Melak main road includes potholes, stripping, and distortion. Along the Samarinda - Melak main road, it can be observed that 57% of road damage is classified as potholes, 23% as distortion, and 20% as stripping.

Abstract

The coastal area has dynamic characteristics that continuously change due to the influence of complex interactions between natural factors and human activities. These changes are triggered by pressures from natural phenomena (such as erosion and flooding) as well as human activities on land and at sea, such as the development of settlements and the conversion of forests into agricultural land or aquaculture. The impacts of these activities can disrupt the stability of coastal ecosystems. In the coastal area of Manggar Village, which is home to several tourist destinations, the presence of tourist attractions and the development of supporting tourism infrastructure have the potential to alter the structure of the coastline. This activity necessitates research to conduct periodic monitoring in the form of determining the coastline affected by the extent of erosion and accretion from 2016 to 2024 every two years. The objective of this research is to present biannual data related to the dynamics of coastline changes and to measure the area affected by erosion (degradation) and accretion (sedimentation addition) in the coastal area of Manggar Village during the period of 2016-2024. The method used leverages remote sensing technology through Sentinel-2 image analysis with the NDWI (Normalized Difference Water Index) algorithm and land-sea segmentation techniques to accurately separate water and land areas. The results of this research are expected to serve as a scientific reference for sustainable coastal area management. This study shows results indicating that the coastline length in 2016 was 6,222 m or 6.2 km, and in 2024 it was 6,130 m or 6.1 km. The erosion from 2016 to 2024 covered an area of 115,770 m², while the accretion covered an area of 14,600 m². The findings of this research provide a clear picture
