Abstract

Students have difficult understanding abstract science concepts due to a lack of learning media capable of visualizing material in an interesting and interactive way. This situation leads to low motivation and poor conceptual mastery, particularly in complex topics like the digestive system. This study aims to determine the effect of visual mind map-based worksheets integrated with the discovery learning model on improving mastery of science concepts regarding the digestive system. Data were collected using pretest and posttest instruments to measure the improvement in conceptual mastery. The collected data were analyzed by calculating the percentage of each mastery indicator, followed by normality testing as a prerequisite. Furthermore, N-gain and paired sample t-tests were conducted using SPSS V.26. The results indicated that the developed visual mind map-based worksheets met feasibility criteria, categorized as highly valid and highly practical. The implementation of this worksheets proved effective in mastery of science concepts of the digestive system, evidenced by a significant increase across all cognitive indicators following the learning process. Additionally, qualitative analysis of students' mind maps demonstrated good achievement in keyword identification, visual application, and concept organization. In conclusion, the use of visual mind map-based worksheets with the discovery learning model is effective in improving students' mastery of science concepts. The effectiveness of visual mind map-based worksheets using the discovery learning model can improve mastery of science concepts in the effective category.
