Abstract

The Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Area is a mangrove ecosystem in Langsa City that has been designated as an ecotourism area. The conversion of the Kuala Langsa mangrove forest area into an ecotourism area is suspected to cause changes in fish habitat, thus affecting fish populations. Research on fish species inventory in the mangrove forest ecotourism area is very relevant to understand the negative impacts of ecotourism on fish and the surrounding environment. An inventory of fish species in the Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism Area was conducted from February to August 2024. This study aims to determine the species of fish found in the Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism Area. The method used was an exploratory survey, by exploring the Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism Area. The search started from the observation tower area to the river mouth. Sampling points were adjusted to environmental conditions, namely depth and habitat conditions. Sample collection was carried out using gill nets and nets, with 9 gill net installation points and 18 net throwing points. Sampling was carried out three times at each location. The research results obtained 90 individuals, consisting of 16 families and 18 species. The species with the largest number of individuals was found in the Gerres erythrourus (kapas) species with 12 individuals, followed by the Hyporhamphus balinensis (julung) species with 11 individuals, and the Sillago sihama (rejung) species with 9 individuals. The least number of species was found in the Caranx ignobilis (rambeu), Platycephalus indicus (baji-baji) and Lactoria cornuta (helicopter) species with one individual each.

Abstract

This study aims to estimate the population density, abundance, and sex ratio of rhinoceros beetles (Oryctes rhinoceros L.) at different growth phases of oil palm in PTPN I plantations, Langsa Baro District. This study was conducted from June to November 2023. The method used was an experimental method. Traps were installed in four sampling blocks, each covering an area of ​​20 Ha, namely immature plants (TBM), sand fruit phase (BP), productive plants aged 4-8 years (TM 4-8) and productive plants aged >10 years (TM >10). A total of eight trap units per plant growth phase were installed systematically with a distance between traps of 400 m. The results of the study obtained 100 individuals of rhinoceros beetles in all growth phases. The average population density was 1.25 individuals/Ha and abundance was 3,125 individuals/trap. Consistent pest management carried out in PTPN I oil palm plantations is suspected to affect the results obtained. The abundance of rhinoceros beetles trapped in the BP phase was the highest (4 individuals/trap) and was significantly different from the TM (4-8) and TM (>10) phases. There were more female rhinoceros beetle imagos trapped than male imagos, with a male:female sex ratio of 1:1.64. Future studies are needed to compare this with community-owned oil palm plantations, especially regarding the population and level of rhinoceros beetle infestation.

Abstract

Putroe Phang City Forest is one of the green open spaces in the Banda Aceh City area. City forests play a role in improving and maintaining microclimate, aesthetic value, absorbing water, maintaining environmental balance and harmony, and supporting biodiversity. The existence of trees in city forests can improve environmental quality. These efforts can be realized well if the city forest has a high diversity of tree species. This study aims to analyze the diversity of tree species in the Potroe Phang City Forest. Data collection was carried out using the census method by observing all plants with tree habits found in the research location. The parameters observed were the type of tree and the number of individuals from each tree. Data analysis was carried out by calculating diversity using the Shannon-Wienner diversity index equation. The results of the study obtained 31 species from 16 families with a total of 263 individuals. The family with the most species obtained was the Fabaceae family with five species, namely Laucaena leucocephala, Pithecellobium dulce, Pterocarpus indicus, Samanea saman, and Tamarindus indica. This species is a species that has been used as a protective plant. While the highest species obtained is Mimusops elengi or tanjung flower from the Sapotaceae family with a total of 82 individuals. The value of the tree diversity index obtained is 2.609 which is included in the moderate category.

Abstract

Butterflies are distributed in various types of habitats and can be used as bioindicators of environmental quality. Landscape changes can affect the diversity and composition of butterflies. An inventory of butterflies (Lepidoptera: Rhopalocera) in several habitat types on the Jantho-Lamno Route, Aceh Besar, has been carried out with the aim of determining the diversity and composition of species as well as their spatial distribution. Butterfly samples were collected directly in five types of habitats, namely river streams, forests, plantations, bushes, and burnt land, located around the Jantho-Lamno road, in the administrative area of Cot Glie District, Aceh Besar Regency. A total of four sampling points were determined for each habitat type, with each point being 1 ha in area and a minimum distance of 1 km. The research results obtained were 52 species and 5 families. The butterflies that were most commonly found were the Nymphalidae family with 31 species (69.85%), followed by Papilionidae with 9 species (17.12%), and the fewest were Hesperiidae with 1 species (0.63%). The diversity index is classified as high, namely H'=3.795. A total of 38 of the 52 species of butterflies found were distributed in forest habitats, 33 species in bush habitats, 31 species in burnt land, 30 species in rivers, and 19 species in gardens. The Nymphalidae and Papilionidae are distributed in all habitat types, but are found more often in forests and bushes. Meanwhile, the Lycaenidae are only found in riverbank and forest habitats, the Pieridae in forests and gardens, and the Hesperidae only in forest habitats. The common food plants found at the research location were Lantana camara, Eupatorium inulifolium, and Clibadium surinamense.

Abstract

This research aims to identify the types and agroforestry systems of coffee plantations in Blang Gele, Central Aceh. The methods used are surveys and interviews. The results of this research show that there are 3 types of coffee varieties planted, namely Gayo 1, 2, and 3 varieties, interspersed with shade plants in the form of lamtoro, banana, cabbage, shallots, and andaliman with simple and complex agroforestry systems. The implementation of a coffee agroforestry system with economically valuable shade crops provides more diverse and higher income for farmers, which encourages farmers to optimize land use with a mixed cropping system, thereby increasing the sustainability of coffee farmers' income in the area. The conclusions of this research emphasize the importance of agroforestry systems in increasing the income of coffee farmers in Central Aceh through crop diversification. Thus, implementing agroforestry can be a sustainable strategy in cultivating coffee in this area.

Abstract

Trembesi Urban Forest is one of the green open spaces in the Banda Aceh City area which has various types of trees. This research aims to determine the types of trees found in the Trembesi Urban Forest. Data collection was carried out using the census method. The parameter observed in this research is the type of tree. The results of this research showed that there were 31 tree species from 17 families with a total of 493 individuals.

Abstract

Peat ecosystems are one of the tropical ecosystems that have high ecological value because they play a role in carbon storage, hydrological regulation, and as a habitat for various fauna groups, including birds. Rawa Tripa, as part of the Leuser Ecosystem Area, is one of the most important peat landscapes in Aceh that faces anthropogenic pressures such as forest fragmentation and land use change. The lack of basic data on bird communities in this area hinders evidence-based conservation efforts. This study aims to inventory the bird species found in the Tripa Peat Forest and assess their conservation value in the context of habitat management. The survey was conducted from July 18 to 28, 2024, using the point count method on 10 observation transects. The results of the study recorded 16 bird species from 12 families, with the Pycnonotidae family being the most commonly found group. Several species with important conservation status were also identified, such as Leptoptilos javanicus (Near Threatened), Acridotheres javanicus (Vulnerable), and the presence of Rhyticeros undulatus (Vulnerable) and their nest, indicating the availability of large trees for nesting. Based on their feeding behavior, the birds of Rawa Tripa exhibit a diversity of ecological functions, ranging from insectivores and frugivores to raptors. These findings indicate that Rawa Tripa still has habitat quality that supports bird communities, even though threats such as hunting and land degradation remain. This study emphasizes the urgency of long-term monitoring and the need for conservation strategies that maintain vegetation structure and wetland sustainability in the Rawa Tripa area.
