Abstract

The Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Area is a mangrove ecosystem in Langsa City that has been designated as an ecotourism area. The conversion of the Kuala Langsa mangrove forest area into an ecotourism area is suspected to cause changes in fish habitat, thus affecting fish populations. Research on fish species inventory in the mangrove forest ecotourism area is very relevant to understand the negative impacts of ecotourism on fish and the surrounding environment. An inventory of fish species in the Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism Area was conducted from February to August 2024. This study aims to determine the species of fish found in the Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism Area. The method used was an exploratory survey, by exploring the Kuala Langsa Mangrove Forest Ecotourism Area. The search started from the observation tower area to the river mouth. Sampling points were adjusted to environmental conditions, namely depth and habitat conditions. Sample collection was carried out using gill nets and nets, with 9 gill net installation points and 18 net throwing points. Sampling was carried out three times at each location. The research results obtained 90 individuals, consisting of 16 families and 18 species. The species with the largest number of individuals was found in the Gerres erythrourus (kapas) species with 12 individuals, followed by the Hyporhamphus balinensis (julung) species with 11 individuals, and the Sillago sihama (rejung) species with 9 individuals. The least number of species was found in the Caranx ignobilis (rambeu), Platycephalus indicus (baji-baji) and Lactoria cornuta (helicopter) species with one individual each.

Abstract

Hornbills (Family Bucerotidae) are animals that play an important role in maintaining the balance of forest ecosystems, but their existence is increasingly threatened due to various factors such as habitat destruction and hunting. This study aims to determine the distribution of hornbill species, and their habitat in Aceh Province. The method used was a literature study with the keywords “hornbills,” “diversity,” and “Aceh,” using the Google Scholar and ResearchGate databases. The results showed that plank hornbills (Buceros bicornis) were found in Aceh Besar, Aceh Selatan, Aceh Jaya, Aceh Barat, Aceh Tamiang, Gayo Lues, and Nagan Raya. Rhinoceros hornbills (Buceros rhinoceros) are found in Aceh Besar, Aceh Selatan, Aceh Jaya, Aceh Singkil, Aceh Tamiang, Aceh Tenggara, Bener Meriah, Gayo Lues, Nagan Raya, and Bireuen. The white-bellied hornbill (Anthracoceros albirostris) is found in Aceh Besar and Aceh Tamiang, while the black-bellied hornbill (Anthracoceros malayanus) is only found in Aceh Tamiang. The ivory hornbill (Rhinoplax vigil) is distributed in Aceh Tamiang, Langsa, Pidie Jaya, and Gayo Lues, while the crested hornbill (Anorrhinus galeritus) and wreathed hornbill (Rhyticeros undulatus) are found in Southeast Aceh. This study provides an overview of the distribution of hornbill species in Aceh that can serve as a basis for conservation efforts and sustainable habitat management.

Abstract

The olive-backed sunbird (Cinnyris jugularis.L.,1766) is a species within the Nectarinidae family, a bird group that primarily feeds on nectar from various flowers. This study aimed to identify the types of nest materials, the composition of these materials, and the number of plant species used by C. jugularis to make nests. The results showed that olive-backed sunbird nest materials are composed of 14 types, consisting of 10 types of natural nest materials and 4 types of non-natural nest materials. Natural nest materials come from various parts of plants and animals, while non-natural nest materials include yarn, raffia, plywood, fiberboard, and paper. The most common and heaviest nest materials are those from plants (55%), animals (29%), and non-natural materials (16%). There are 11 plant species used as nest materials, the most widely used is the Casuarina equisetifolia

Abstract

Birds play a vital role in ecosystems, such as aiding in flower pollination and seed dispersal. In urban areas, their presence largely depends on the availability of safe and supportive habitats. One key element is urban forests, which are part of Green Open Spaces (RTH) and serve to maintain the ecological functions of birds in urban environments. However, research on birds in urban areas of Indonesia remains limited, with existing data covering only a small number of cities and regions. This study aims to identify the diversity of bird species in urban areas representing the five major islands of Indonesia (Sumatra, Java, Kalimantan, Sulawesi and Papua) through a literature review. Data were gathered from various sources related to bird species in major cities and analyzed using the Shannon-Wiener diversity index. The findings revealed the presence of 142 bird species distributed across 14 orders in Indonesia's urban areas. The bird diversity index reached a high value of 4.7. These results highlight the significant diversity of bird species in Indonesian urban environments and underscore the importance of conserving bird habitats in urban areas to support the sustainability of urban ecosystems.

Abstract

Sumatra Island is one of the westernmost islands of Indonesia, which has various types of birds. Therefore, this research was carried out to analyze the diversity of bird species in various areas of the Sumatra Island campus. This research was conducted using a literature review method with Google Scholar. The results of the research show that there are 10 campus areas on Sumatra Island which are recorded as having a diversity of bird species, namely Syiah Kuala University had 10 bird species, Andalas University had 24 bird species, Lampung University had 20 bird species, Bangka Belitung University had 20 bird species, Raden University Intan Lampung had 24 bird species, Bengkulu University had 12 bird species, UIN Ar-Raniry had 15 bird species, Sumatra Institute of Technology had 19 bird species, Riau University had 48 bird species and Padang University had 21 bird species.

Abstract

Birds are wild animals that have high adaptability to a wide variety of habitat types. This review article aims to determine the diversity of birds found in several areas in Aceh Province. Data collection was carried out using library study techniques, namely tracing sources or literature in the form of primary data in the form of national journals, theses, dissertations, and proceedings for the last 16 years (2007 - 2023). The total bird species found in the above areas was 139. The diversity of birds in several areas in Aceh Province, such as in Lhoknga District, Aceh Besar Regency, Aceh Besar Mangrove Forest After the 2004 Tsunami, Deudap Pulo Aceh Aceh Besar Regency, Banda Aceh City Forest, Mount Seulawah Agam Aceh Besar, TAHURA Pocut Meurah Intan Aceh, in the green open spaces of Banda Aceh City, the East Coast of Banda Aceh City, the Glee Nipah area of ​​Pulo Aceh, Kilometer Zero Iboih Pulau Weh Sabang, as well as at Kawasan Ekosistem Leuser Wilayah Menggamat Desa Arie Buluh Kabupaten Aceh Selatan.

Abstract

Peat ecosystems are one of the tropical ecosystems that have high ecological value because they play a role in carbon storage, hydrological regulation, and as a habitat for various fauna groups, including birds. Rawa Tripa, as part of the Leuser Ecosystem Area, is one of the most important peat landscapes in Aceh that faces anthropogenic pressures such as forest fragmentation and land use change. The lack of basic data on bird communities in this area hinders evidence-based conservation efforts. This study aims to inventory the bird species found in the Tripa Peat Forest and assess their conservation value in the context of habitat management. The survey was conducted from July 18 to 28, 2024, using the point count method on 10 observation transects. The results of the study recorded 16 bird species from 12 families, with the Pycnonotidae family being the most commonly found group. Several species with important conservation status were also identified, such as Leptoptilos javanicus (Near Threatened), Acridotheres javanicus (Vulnerable), and the presence of Rhyticeros undulatus (Vulnerable) and their nest, indicating the availability of large trees for nesting. Based on their feeding behavior, the birds of Rawa Tripa exhibit a diversity of ecological functions, ranging from insectivores and frugivores to raptors. These findings indicate that Rawa Tripa still has habitat quality that supports bird communities, even though threats such as hunting and land degradation remain. This study emphasizes the urgency of long-term monitoring and the need for conservation strategies that maintain vegetation structure and wetland sustainability in the Rawa Tripa area.
