Abstract

Title: Analysis of Public Perception and Simple Testing (pH and TDS) on the Physical Quality of Bored Well Water in Asadel Residence Housing, Kuantan Singingi Regency. Background:  The availability of adequate water, both in terms of quality and quantity, is a crucial indicator in health sector development; however, access to suitable water in Riau Province remains limited.  This study aims to analyze public perception of the physical quality of bored well water and to assess its alignment with the results of simple testing for pH and Total Dissolved Solids (TDS) parameters. Method: This research uses a descriptive case study approach, with qualitative methods as the primary data source (in-depth interviews and observation) supported by quantitative data (pH and TDS measurements). The sample consisted of 15 heads of households as primary informants and one environmental health worker as a key informant. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and triangulated to ensure validity. Result: The results indicate that the community perceives the physical quality of the bored well water as poor, particularly regarding its discoloration to yellowish after standing, a slight metallic odor, and its effects such as scaling on fixtures and staining on laundry. This perception leads the community to use bored well water only for non-consumptive purposes (bathing, washing), while switching to gallon water for consumption. However, technical measurements show that the water's pH values range from 6.77 to 8.20 and TDS values range from 58 to 91 mg/L, which still comply with the quality standards of Indonesian Ministry of Health Regulation No. 2 of 2023.
