Abstract

ABSTRACT Background of the study: Advances in science and technology require graduate students to have high information literacy skills to be able to search for, evaluate, and utilize information effectively to support the quality of research and scientific work. The User Education Program at the UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Library is a strategic effort to strengthen these competencies, so the effectiveness of its implementation needs to be evaluated empirically. Purpose: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the User Education program for graduate students at UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta for the 2025–2026 academic year in improving their understanding of library services and information resources. Method: : The study employed an experimental method with a pre-experimental design approach, specifically the One-Group Pre-test-Post-test Design type. The study population consisted of 631 graduate students with a sample of 86 respondents selected using purposive sampling. Data were collected through knowledge test instruments (Pre-test and Post-test) and analyzed using the Normalized Gain Model (N-Gain). Findings: The analysis results show that the average N-Gain value of 0.6301 (63.01%) falls into the moderate category, with a fairly effective level of learning effectiveness. Most participants experienced improvement in the moderate (48.8%) and high (40.7%) categories. Conclusion: The User Education Program has proven effective in improving students' understanding of library resources and services, although optimization of methods and materials is still needed to achieve maximum results. Keywords: User Education, Normalized Gain, Graduate Students, Information Literacy ABSTRAK Latar belakang: Perkembangan ilmu pengetahuan dan teknologi menuntut mahasiswa pascasarjana memiliki kemampuan literasi informasi yang tinggi untuk dapat menelusuri, mengevaluasi, dan memanfaatkan informasi secara efektif guna mendukung kualitas riset dan karya ilmiah. Program User Education di Perpustakaan UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta menjadi upaya strategis untuk memperkuat kompetensi ini, sehingga efektivitas pelaksanaannya perlu dievaluasi secara empiris. Tujuan: Penelitian ini bertujuan mengevaluasi efektivitas program User Education bagi mahasiswa pascasarjana UIN Sunan Kalijaga Yogyakarta Tahun Akademik 2025–2026 dalam meningkatkan pemahaman mereka terhadap layanan perpustakaan dan sumber daya informasi. Metode: Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen dengan pendekatan pre-experimental design tipe One Group Pre-test-Post-test Design. Populasi penelitian adalah 631 mahasiswa pascasarjana dengan sampel 86 responden yang dipilih menggunakan purposive sampling. Data dikumpulkan melalui instrumen tes pengetahuan (Pre-test dan Post-test) dan dianalisis menggunakan Model Normalized Gain (N-Gain). Temuan: Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa nilai rata-rata N-Gain sebesar 0,6301 (63,01%) termasuk dalam kategori sedang, dengan tingkat efektivitas pembelajaran yang cukup efektif. Sebagian besar peserta mengalami peningkatan pada kategori sedang (48,8%) dan tinggi (40,7%). Kesimpulan: Program User Education terbukti efektif dalam meningkatkan pemahaman mahasiswa terhadap sumber daya dan layanan perpustakaan, meskipun masih diperlukan optimalisasi metode dan materi untuk hasil yang lebih maksimal.
