Abstract

This study aims to analyze the effect of labor force participation rate, education level as measured by mean years of schooling, and cigarette consumption on the poverty line in Jambi Province during the 2019-2024 period. The study applies a quantitative approach using panel data regression across districts and cities in Jambi Province. The model selection process identified the Fixed Effect Model as the most appropriate analytical model. The findings reveal that labor force participation rate, education level, and cigarette consumption simultaneously influence the poverty line. Partially, education level and cigarette consumption have a positive and significant effect on the poverty line, while labor force participation rate does not show a significant effect. Higher education levels tend to increase living standards and household needs, which contributes to changes in the poverty line. In addition, higher cigarette consumption shifts household expenditure patterns away from productive and basic needs, thereby affecting poverty conditions. Meanwhile, the insignificant effect of labor force participation rate is associated with the dominance of low-productivity informal employment.
