Abstract

Kegiatan produksi bawang goreng di Bangsal Pangsa Panen Gebang Mulyo menghasilkan limbah minyak jelantah dalam jumlah yang cukup besar. Limbah tersebut belum dimanfaatkan secara optimal, sehingga berpotensi menimbulkan pencemaran lingkungan. Kegiatan pengabdian kepada masyarakat ini bertujuan untuk mendampingi pengelolaan limbah melalui pengembangan unit produksi biodiesel berbasis minyak jelantah sebagai implementasi konsep circular economy. Metode yang digunakan meliputi identifikasi potensi limbah, perancangan unit produksi biodiesel skala kecil, pelatihan proses produksi biodiesel, serta pendampingan operasional kepada mitra. Hasil kegiatan menunjukkan bahwa unit produksi biodiesel berbasis metode transesterifikasi berhasil dibangun dan dioperasikan. Unit ini mampu mengolah hingga 95% limbah minyak jelantah menjadi biodiesel dengan kualitas yang memenuhi standar SNI, sehingga dapat mengurangi limbah produksi sekaligus menghasilkan bahan bakar alternatif. Selain memberikan manfaat lingkungan, kegiatan ini juga membuka peluang ekonomi baru bagi masyarakat. Pengembangan unit biodiesel pada industri bawang goreng ini berpotensi menjadi model penerapan circular economy pada sektor agroindustri skala kecil. Pendampingan lanjutan masih diperlukan, khususnya dalam pengolahan gliserol sebagai produk samping proses biodiesel, agar seluruh limbah dapat dimanfaatkan menjadi produk bernilai tambah. Fried shallot production activities at the Gebang Mulyo post-harvest facility generate a significant amount of waste cooking oil. This waste has not been optimally utilized, leading to potential environmental pollution. This community service program aims to assist waste management through the development of a small-scale biodiesel production unit using waste cooking oil as an implementation of the circular economy concept. The methods employed include waste potential identification, design and development of a biodiesel production unit, training on biodiesel production processes, and operational assistance for the partners. The results show that the biodiesel production unit based on the transesterification method was successfully constructed and operated. The unit is capable of converting up to 95% of waste cooking oil into biodiesel that meets Indonesian National Standard (SNI) quality requirements, thereby reducing production waste while generating an alternative fuel source. In addition to environmental benefits, this program also creates new economic opportunities for the community. The development of this biodiesel unit in the fried shallot industry has the potential to serve as a model for circular economy implementation in small-scale agroindustries. Further assistance is required, particularly in the processing of glycerol as a by-product, to ensure that all waste can be transformed into value-added products).
