Abstract

Background: The results of the 2023 Indonesian Health Survey indicate a high prevalence of dental and oral health issues among the Indonesian population. Data from the Oral Surgery Clinic at RSUD Dokter Soekardjo reveals a significant number of patients diagnosed with impacted teeth, predominantly involving third molars (wisdom teeth). Brief interviews with dental nurses at the clinic suggest that upon receiving an explanation of their condition, new patients often exhibit signs of panic and anxiety when learning of their diagnosis and the necessity of an odontectomy. Objective: To determine the correlation between motivation and anxiety levels in patients undergoing odontectomy for impacted third molars. Methodology: This study utilized a cross-sectional design involving 30 respondents selected via purposive sampling. Data collection instruments included a motivation questionnaire and the Facial Image Scale (FIS). Data were analyzed using the Spearman Rank correlation test. Results: Statistical analysis indicated a strong correlation between the variables. Conclusion: There is a correlation between motivation and anxiety levels in patients undergoing odontectomy for impacted third molars.
