Abstract

Snacks serve as a vital source of energy and nutrients for school-aged children; however, their safety remains a significant concern due to potential health risks. Consuming unhygienic snacks or those containing hazardous substances can lead to various health issues, such as food poisoning, and negatively impact a child's nutritional status and academic performance. Elementary school students often select snacks based on visual appeal and taste rather than nutritional value, thereby increasing their exposure to unsafe food. This community service initiative aimed to enhance the knowledge and awareness of students at SDN 1 Sumampir regarding safe and healthy food choices through an educational program titled "Wisely Choose Your Snacks: Strong Body, No Medicine." The method employed focused on promotive and preventive education using interactive lectures, discussions, and visual aids—such as posters and educational games—involving 22 students from grades 4 and 5. The results indicated a significant improvement in student knowledge. The percentage of students in the "Excellent" category rose from 59.09% in the pre-test to 95.45% in the post-test. Statistical analysis using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test yielded a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), demonstrating a significant and uniform increase in students' understanding of healthy snacks.
