Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Sleep patterns play a critical role in the cognitive development of school-aged children, particularly in the processes of memory consolidation and attention. This study aims to examine the relationship between sleep patterns and cognitive development among sixth-grade students at SDN 008 Batam Kota. Method: This analytical study with a cross-sectional design involved 63 students selected using a total sampling technique. Sleep patterns were assessed using the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI), while cognitive development was evaluated using a questionnaire. Data analysis was conducted using the Spearman correlation test at a significance level of α = 0.05. Results: A total of 71.4% of respondents had good sleep patterns, and 82.5% demonstrated high-category cognitive development. The analysis indicated a significant positive relationship between sleep patterns and cognitive development (p = 0.004; r = 0.357). Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between sleep patterns and cognitive development in school-aged children. Good sleep quality contributes to the optimization of cognitive function. Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: The elderly experience physiological decline as they age, affecting muscle strength, sensory systems, and postural stability, which in turn influences body balance. Optimal physical activity is known to improve dynamic balance and reduce the risk of falling. This study aims to determine the relationship between physical activity and balance level in the elderly at Majelis Taklim Husnul Khotimah in 2025. Methods: This study used an observational analytic method with a cross-sectional approach. The sample consisted of 50 elderly individuals selected using total sampling. Physical activity was measured using the Physical Activity Scale for the Elderly (PASE) questionnaire, and dynamic balance was assessed using the Timed Up and Go Test (TUGT). Data were analyzed using the Chi-Square test. Results: A total of 42.0% of elderly individuals had a low level of physical activity, and 46.0% had impaired balance. The chi-square test results showed a significance value (p-value) of 0.001. Conclusion: There is a significant relationship between physical activity and balance level among the elderly at Majelis Taklim Husnul Khotimah in 2025. Elderly with low levels of physical activity tend to have impaired balance. Keywords: Physical Activity, Balance, Elderly

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Palm oil mill workers have a heavy work scope that is potentially prone to Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs). Musculoskeletal Disorders (MSDs) are disorders of the muscles and bones that often occur due to individual and work factors. Methods: This research uses a cross-sectional study design with total sampling technique involving 41 workers in the palm oil processing section at PT Agrindo Indah Persada. Data were collected through the Nordic Body Map questionnaire to measure the level of MSDs complaints and questionnaires related to individual factors (age, smoking habits, work duration, and body mass index) and work factors (work posture, work duration, and workload). Data analysis was conducted using Chi-Square and Fisher Exact Test statistical tests. Results: The research results show that individual factors such as age (p=0.000) and work duration (p=0.008) are associated with the risk of MSDs. Additionally, work factors such as work posture (p=0.000) and work duration (p=0.000) are related to the risk of MSDs. Conclusion: Individual and work factors play an important role in influencing MSDs complaints among palm oil mill workers. Preventive efforts such as applying ergonomic principles, reducing workload, and regulating work duration are necessary to reduce the risk of MSDs in workers.
