Abstract

Urinary tract infections occur when microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, or viruses invade parts of the urinary system. The primary bacterium that causes infection is Escherichia coli. The objective of this study is to determine the effect of health education regarding urination behavior on the prevention of urinary tract infections. This study used a quantitative method with an experimental approach employing a One Group Pretest–Posttest Design by comparing pre-test and post-test data. The population consisted of all 180 students of grade IX, and the sample was obtained using a total sampling technique; however, the number of respondents who were present during data collection was 154 students. The findings showed an increase in students’ knowledge, attitudes, and behaviors related to urinary tract infection prevention after the health education intervention was provided. The Wilcoxon test revealed a p-value < 0,05 for all variables, indicating that health education had a significant effect on improving students’ knowledge, attitudes, and urination behavior in preventing urinary tract infections. It is concluded that health education is effective in improving students’ understanding and behavior regarding the prevention of urinary tract infections. This study is expected to serve as a reference for schools, health workers, and future researchers in implementing continuous health education programs.

Abstract

Preschool children’s independence in performing toilet training is an important indicator of early childhood development related to health, psychological, and social aspects. However, some preschool children are still not independent, as indicated by their dependence on adult assistance and the continued use of diapers, highlighting the need for appropriate interventions through structured toilet training education tailored to the child’s developmental stage. This study aimed to determine the effect of toilet training education on the independence of preschool children in performing toilet training at PAUD Gansir, Sirisirisi Village. The study employed a quantitative method with a pre-experimental design using a one-group pretest–posttest approach. Total sampling was applied, resulting in 12 respondents. The education was delivered in two sessions, and children’s independence levels were measured before the intervention and one month after the final session using a questionnaire. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon test. The results showed an increase in children’s independence after the education, with a p-value of 0.002 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant effect of toilet training education on preschool children’s independence. In conclusion, repeated toilet training education accompanied by a one-month habituation period effectively improved children’s independence optimally and sustainably. Future studies are recommended to use a quasi-experimental design, larger sample size, inclusion of toddlers, and longer, more innovative educational interventions to enhance generalizability.

Abstract

Reproductive health is an important aspect in the lives of adolescent girls, especially during menstruation. Lack of knowledge and understanding of reproductive health can impact suboptimal personal hygiene behavior, thus increasing the risk of reproductive health disorders. The study aims to analyze the effect of reproductive health education on personal hygiene behavior of girls during menstruation at HKBP Pardamean Junior High School. This type of research is a quantitative study with a pre-experimental design with a one group pretest–posttest approach. The sampling technique is total sampling with a sample of 27 respondents. Data collection was carried out using a personal hygiene behavior questionnaire before and after the provision of reproductive health education. Data analysis was carried out univariately and bivariately using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of the study showed a significant influence between reproductive health education on personal hygiene behavior of girls during menstruation with a p-value <0.05. This indicates that reproductive health education can improve personal hygiene practices among adolescent girls during menstruation. It is concluded that there is a significant influence between reproductive health education and personal hygiene practices among adolescent girls during menstruation.
