Abstract

Anemia is a condition in which hemoglobin (Hb), hematocrit, and red blood cell counts are below normal levels or the recommended limits. Various pharmacological and non-pharmacological approaches have been implemented to address anemia in adolescents. One such approach is the use of moringa leaves, which are commonly found in North Sumatra. This study aims to determine the effect of moringa leaf decoction on increasing hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls at SMA N 4 BINJAI. This study used a quantitative approach. The analytical pre-experimental research design used a one-group pre-post-test design. Twelve respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using a Paired Samples T-Test. The results of this study using the Paired Samples T-Test showed a p-value of 0.001 (p < 0.05), indicating a significant difference between hemoglobin levels before and after the intervention. This indicates a significant effect of Moringa leaf decoction on increasing hemoglobin levels to prevent anemia in adolescent girls. It is concluded that Moringa leaf decoction increases hemoglobin levels in adolescent girls to prevent anemia and can be applied as a non-pharmacological therapy in the management of hypertension in health facilities.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the most common diseases in the community. This disease is included in the group of major non-communicable diseases worldwide, which can have a significant impact on various health problems, such as heart disease, stroke, kidney failure, disability, and premature death. There are two approaches to lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension: pharmacological and non-pharmacological methods. One approach is through complementary therapy, a foot soak using lemongrass and salt boiled water, which works through vasodilation, increased peripheral circulation, a relaxing effect, and decreased sympathetic nerve activity. This study aimed to determine the effect of a foot soak using lemongrass and salt boiled water on lowering blood pressure in people with hypertension in Sampali Village, Percut Sei Tuan District, Deli Serdang Regency. This study was quantitative, using a pre experimental method with a one-group pretest-posttest design. In this design, the researchers used one intervention group. A total of 25 respondents were selected using a purposive sampling technique. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. The results of this study using the Wilcoxon Signed-Rank Test showed a p-value of 0.000 (p <0.05), indicating a significant difference between blood pressure before and after the intervention, indicating a significant effect of foot soaks using lemongrass and salt boiled water on lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients. Foot soaks using lemongrass and salt boiled water are effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertensive patients and can be implemented as a non-pharmacological therapy in the management of hypertension in healthcare facilities.

Abstract

Hypertension is a common non-communicable disease and a major risk factor for various complications such as stroke, heart failure, and kidney disease. One of these is complementary foot hydrotherapy with a mixture of salt and ginger, which works through vasodilation, increased peripheral circulation, a relaxing effect, and decreased sympathetic nerve activity. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of foot hydrotherapy with a mixture of salt and ginger on reducing blood pressure in hypertension patients in Sihotang Hasugian Village, Tonga. This research methode is a quantitative approach, analytical pre-experimental research design in one group pre-post-test design approach. The number of respondents as many as 20 people was selected using a purposive sampling technique, Data analysis was carried out using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results of this study with the Wilcoxon test showed a p value = 0.000 (p <0.05), which means there is a significant difference between blood pressure before and after the intervention. indicating a significant effect of Foot Hydrotherapy with a Mixture of Salt and Ginger on Reducing Blood Pressure in Hypertension Patients. The Conclusion of this Foot Hydrotherapy with a mixture of salt and ginger is effective in lowering blood pressure in hypertension sufferers and can be applied as a non-pharmacological therapy in the management of hypertension in health facilities.

Abstract

Hypertension is one of the major health problems among the elderly and is often referred to as a silent killer because it can cause serious complications such as stroke, heart disease, and kidney failure if not properly managed. The objective of this study is to determine the comparison of the effectiveness of lemongrass and ginger decoction foot soaking therapy on reducing blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension in Laut Dendang Village. A quasi-experimental design with a pre-test and post-test approach was used. Elderly patients with hypertension were divided into two groups: lemongrass and ginger decoction foot soaking therapy. Data were analyzed using the Paired Sample t-Test and the Independent Sample t-Test. The study showed that lemongrass and ginger decoction foot soaking therapies both had an effect on reducing systolic and diastolic blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension (p value = 0.001 < 0.05). The results of the comparative test indicated that there was a difference in effectiveness between the two therapies, in which ginger decoction foot soaking therapy resulted in a greater reduction in blood pressure compared to lemongrass decoction foot soaking therapy. Ginger decoction foot soaking therapy is more effective as a non-pharmacological therapy in reducing blood pressure among elderly patients with hypertension.
