Abstract

Hypertension is known as "the silent killer," where sufferers are unaware that they have hypertension. This condition occurs because symptoms are not felt until the sufferer is aware that their blood pressure is too high and complications that can lead to death may have occurred and numbers continue to rise each year, have become a concern during the COVID-19 pandemic. This objective is to explore the meaning of the experiences of elderly hypertension patients during the Covid-19 pandemic. This research uses a qualitative type with a phenomenological design. In this study, the researcher used 7 participants. The data analysis techniques used by the researcher are (1) data reduction, (2) data display, and (3) drawing conclusions. The results of this study are in the form of 4 themes related to the experiences of elderly hypertension patients during the Covid-19 pandemic, including: (1) elderly knowledge about hypertension, (2) ability to handle hypertension, (3) strategies for controlling hypertension, (4) obstacles to handling hypertension. The conclusions in this study are: (1) Elderly people who have a history of hypertension are able to understand hypertension, (2) Elderly people are able to treat hypertension early when they start to experience hypertension, (3) Elderly people know what actions they should take to control hypertension, (4) Elderly people know what obstacles or constraints they often experience when they experience hypertension.

Abstract

The increasing cases of hypertension and diabetes mellitus are health problems that are often experienced by the elderly and carry the risk of causing serious complications. One alternative complementary therapy widely used in the community is the use of breadfruit leaves (Artocarpus altilis), which are known to contain flavonoids, polyphenols, and saponins that play a role in lowering blood pressure and blood glucose levels. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of steeping breadfruit leaf tea (Artocarpus altilis) on blood pressure and blood glucose levels in the elderly. This research method is a quantitative study with a quasi-experimental design with a one-group pretest-posttest approach. A sample of 25 people was obtained through total sampling. Data analysis used the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed that there was a decrease in blood pressure and blood glucose levels after the administration of breadfruit leaf tea. The results of the statistical test showed a p value <0.05, which means there was a significant effect of breadfruit leaf tea on reducing blood pressure and blood glucose levels in the elderly. Therefore, it was concluded that breadfruit leaf tea infusion had an effect on reducing blood pressure and blood glucose levels. It is recommended that future researchers add a Body Mass Index (BMI) variable.

Abstract

Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus is a chronic metabolic disease with an increasing prevalence. In addition to pharmacological therapy, nonpharmacological approaches such as the use of moringa leaves (Moringa oleifera) have the potential to reduce blood glucose levels. The objective This study is To determine the effect of moringa leaf boiled water on blood glucose levels in patients with Type Diabetes Mellitus in Hutaraja Village Dolok Sanggul Distrct. The methodes This study preexperimental study employed a one-group pre-test and post-test design involving. The population 28 respondents selected through purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of administering moringa leaf boiled water once daily for 7 days. Data analysis was conducted using the Shapiro–Wilk test and paired sample t-test. The results of the mean blood glucose levels after the intervention were lower than before the intervention, with a p-value <0.05. the conculsion is Moringa leaf boiled water has a significant effect on reducing blood glucose levels in patients with Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus and can be used as a complementary non-pharmacological therapy.

Abstract

Hyperuricemia in the elderly often causes joint pain that can interfere with daily activities. In addition to pharmacological therapy, joint pain can also be managed using non-pharmacological therapy, one of which is red ginger compress therapy. This study aimed to determine the effect of red ginger compress therapy on reducing joint pain in elderly patients with hyperuricemia at Kedai Durian Public Health Center, Medan Johor District, Medan City. This study employed a pre-experimental design with a one-group pretest–posttest design. The sample consisted of 20 elderly respondents selected using total sampling technique. Joint pain intensity was measured using the Numeric Rating Scale (NRS) before and after the intervention. Data were analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test. The results showed a decrease in joint pain intensity after the administration of red ginger compress therapy, with a p-value < 0.05, indicating a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest. In conclusion, red ginger compress therapy has a significant effect on reducing joint pain in elderly patients with hyperuricemia. It is recommended that future research involve a larger number of respondents, a longer research duration, and take into account other factors such as diet and physical activity levels.
