Abstract

This study aims to examine the relationship between the parent-child relationship and online grooming risk in early adolescents in Agam Regency. The increase in internet use among adolescents is followed by an increased risk of online crime, including online grooming, which the victim is often unaware of. Early adolescents are highly vulnerable due to their need for social affiliation and their limited ability to recognize the risks of online interactions. This study uses a quantitative, correlational design. The study participants were 180 adolescents aged 13-17 years, selected using incidental sampling. Data were collected using the Inventory of Parent and Peer Attachment (IPPA) and the Online Grooming Risk Scale (OGR-S). Data analysis uses Pearson product-moment correlation. Results showed a significant negative relationship between parent-child relationship and online grooming risk (r = -0.735). These findings show that the parent-child relationship has the potential to be a protective factor in reducing the risk of online grooming in early adolescents.

Abstract

Parental divorce can affect the quality of family relationships and children’s psychological well-being well into emerging adulthood, in part through the emergence of feelings of loneliness. One factor that plays a role in reducing loneliness is self-disclosure to one’s mother. This study aims to examine the relationship between self-disclosure to one’s mother and loneliness in emerging adults whose parents are divorced. This study employs a quantitative approach using a correlational method to examine the relationship between variables. The subjects of this study are individuals in emerging adulthood with divorced parents. The sample was selected using purposive sampling and snowball sampling techniques. Meanwhile, data were collected using a self-disclosure to mother scale and a loneliness scale. The data were then analyzed using Spearman’s rank correlation. The results indicate a significant negative relationship between self-disclosure to one’s mother and loneliness among emerging adults with divorced parents (r = -0.441; p < 0.001). These findings indicate that the higher the level of self-disclosure to one’s mother, the lower the level of loneliness experienced by the individual. Conversely, the lower the level of self-disclosure to one’s mother, the higher the level of loneliness felt. Furthermore, the level of self-disclosure in this study falls into the high category, while loneliness falls into the moderate category. These findings highlight the importance of self-disclosure to one’s mother as a factor that can help reduce feelings of loneliness among emerging adults who have experienced parental divorce.

Abstract

Sleep hygiene is an important behavioral factor associated with healthy sleep patterns, while bedtime procrastination refers to the tendency to delay bedtime without external reasons despite being aware of its negative consequences. University students are particularly vulnerable to bedtime procrastination due to academic demands, excessive digital media use, and poor self-regulation. This study aimed to examine the relationship between sleep hygiene and bedtime procrastination among undergraduate students at Universitas Negeri Padang. A quantitative correlational design was employed involving 450 undergraduate students selected using quota sampling. Data were collected using the Adolescent Sleep Hygiene Scale (ASHS) and the Bedtime Procrastination Scale (BPS). Instrument validity was assessed using Corrected Item-Total Correlation, while reliability was evaluated using Cronbach’s Alpha. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, the Kolmogorov–Smirnov normality test, the linearity test, and Spearman’s Rank correlation. The results indicated that the instruments were valid and reliable (α = 0.855 for sleep hygiene; α = 0.803 for bedtime procrastination). Spearman’s correlation analysis revealed a significant relationship between sleep hygiene and bedtime procrastination (ρ = 0.476, p < 0.001), indicating a moderate association. The findings suggest that better sleep hygiene is associated with lower levels of bedtime procrastination. Therefore, promoting healthy sleep habits may help reduce bedtime procrastination and improve students’ sleep quality and overall well-being.
