Abstract

Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (Perilaku Hidup Bersih dan Sehat/PHBS) is an essential component in improving student’s health status in the school environment. The implementation of PHBS from an early age plays a crucial role in preventing various diseases related to personal hygiene. However, the application of PHBS among children with special needs often faces challenges due to limitations in cognitive, motoric, and sensory aspects. Preliminary observations at SLB Tegar Harapan indicated that most students had not been able to practice proper handwashing as part of PHBS at School. This paper presents activity to improve the knowledge and skills of students at SLB Tegar Harapan in performing proper handwashing behavior. The method used was a descriptive approach with an educational intervention through simple health education and hands-on practice. The activities were conducted in several stages, including initial observation, delivery of health education using visual media and teaching aids, handwashing demonstrations, repeated practice, and evaluation of students' abilities after the intervention with teacher assistance. The results showed an improvement in students’ ability to perform proper handwashing steps after receiving education and guidance. Behavioral changes were also observed, as indicated by an increased habit of handwashing before and after school activities, although some students still required assistance. In addition, teacher involvement played an important role in strengthening the sustainable implementation of Clean and Healthy living Behavior (PHBS). This study concludes that PHBS education delivered through demonstration and continuous guidance is effective in improving handwashing behavior among students with special needs. Support from the school environment and consistent assistance are essential to gradually develop clean and healthy living habits.

Abstract

Environmental awareness among elementary school students needs to be cultivated from an early age through interactive and enjoyable learning approaches. The Ecoventure: Environmental Education Outbound program is an innovation of the KKN- PPM team of Universitas Gadjah Mada, developed in Jatirejo Village, Lendah Subdistrict, Kulon Progo Regency, to enhance students’ understanding of environmental issues through game-based activities. The program was implemented on July 27, 2025, at Resto Bukit Cubung, involving 35 students from grades III–VI of elementary school who were divided into six groups. The implementation methods included preparing curriculum-based materials, providing supporting facilities, and designing six educational game stations: Trash Race, Jejak Sampah, Kuis Cinta Lingkungan, Salurkan Air!, Tebak Gaya Lingkungan, and Bumi Panas! Cepat Berdiri!. Data were collected through qualitative observation, short interviews with stakeholders, and literature review, and then analyzed to assess changes in participants’ understanding before and after the program. The results indicate that students were able to differentiate waste categories (organic, inorganic, and hazardous), recognize the importance of conserving water resources, and understand the relationship between daily activities and global warming. Furthermore, the program encouraged active participation, strengthened social interaction, and improved teamwork, thereby creating an inclusive and engaging learning environment. In conclusion, Ecoventure proved effective as an interactive game-based learning medium for environmental education and demonstrates potential as a replicable model for community service programs in both formal and non-formal educational settings.

Abstract

The development of tourism villages requires structured and community-based packaging of local potential to create meaningful and sustainable tourism experiences. Jatirejo Village, Kulon Progo Regency, possesses various cultural and agricultural resources that had not yet been integrated into a coherent tourism package. This community service program aimed to formulate and implement a thematic tourism package to optimize the tourism potential of Jatirejo Tourism Village. A participatory approach was employed through community assistance, collaborative planning, and direct implementation involving university students and local residents. The results indicate that the One Day Tour Pesona Jatirejo tourism package was successfully developed and implemented, integrating cultural performances, cycling tours, agricultural harvesting activities, and local handicraft and culinary workshops. The novelty of this program lies in the direct implementation of the tourism package within a district-level tourism village competition, allowing the designed package to be tested and evaluated in real conditions. This program contributed to strengthening community participation, enhancing local capacity in tourism management, reinforcing local identity, and creating opportunities for sustainable economic development. The developed tourism package is expected to serve as an initial model for the continuous and independent development of tourism activities in Jatirejo Tourism Village.
