Abstract

Contemporary learning developments in the 21st century demand adaptations in teaching methods, where project-based assignments foster creativity, collaboration, and real-world problem-solving among prospective biology teachers. Initial observations indicated students lack innovation without lecturer guidance, necessitating response analysis to evaluate effectiveness. This study adopted a descriptive quantitative approach, collecting data through a Likert-scale questionnaire (strongly disagree, disagree, moderately agree, agree, strongly agree) covering 8 aspects: topic understanding, creativity and innovation, collaboration, time management, product quality, project presentation, reflection/process, and benefits. It involved 84 student respondents, with data processed using Microsoft Excel and SPSS version 21.Analysis results showed student responses to the project-based assignment model in contemporary learning lectures fell into the "very good" category, averaging 82.20%. The highest response was on the indicator of real benefits from projects in developing knowledge, skills, and general learning experiences (85.00%). The lowest was on efficient project completion time management (79.76%). These findings demonstrate the model's high effectiveness for current biology education.

Abstract

This research was conducted on November 4 to November 7, 2023/2024 school year at UPTD SMP Negeri 11 Kupang. The purpose of this study was to determine the improvement of student learning outcomes through the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the material of Classification of Living Things in class VII UPTD SMP Negeri 11 Kupang. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (PTK) in two cycles consisting of planning, action implementation, observation, and reflection stages. The subjects of this study were 32 students of class VII A consisting of 12 boys and 20 girls. Data collection techniques in this study include teacher activity observation, learner activity observation, individual test data and group tests. Data analysis used in this research is descriptive qualitative and descriptive quantitative. The results showed that the data in cycle I, the class average on student activity observation reached 13.75 with a percentage of 49.10% and in cycle II the class average on student activity observation reached 25.54 with a percentage of 91.21%. In the teacher skill observation test in cycle I, the average reached 31.5 with a percentage of 71.60% and in cycle 2 the average reached 42 with a percentage of 95.46%. The learning outcomes of students in cycle I reached an average of 69.91 with a percentage of 46.87% and in cycle II the average increased to 81.13 with a percentage of 81.25%. Based on the results of the study, it was concluded that the application of the Problem Based Learning (PBL) learning model on the Classification of Living Things material succeeded in improving learning outcomes.
