Abstract

The social interactions of young children in diverse environments are not yet fully instilled with religious tolerance. The persistence of closed-mindedness and prejudice toward differences demonstrates the importance of instilling values of tolerance from an early age. Early childhood education plays a strategic role in developing tolerant character through habits, role models, and inclusive learning experiences. This study aims to describe the application of religious tolerance, the role of teacher role models, and the implementation of tolerance values in learning activities and social interactions at the Rukun Harapan Three Languages PGTK School in Jember. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study design. Data collection techniques were carried out through observation, interviews, and documentation with research subjects including the principal, teachers, and students. The results of the study indicate that religious tolerance is implemented through an inclusive school culture, the habituation of mutual respect, and teacher role models in treating students without religious discrimination. The implementation of tolerance is evident in learning activities, celebrations of religious holidays, and daily social interactions that emphasize living in harmony in diversity. This study concludes that a multicultural school environment and the consistent role of teachers are key factors in instilling an attitude of religious tolerance in early childhood.
