Abstract

Introduction: Hyperglycemia can lead to a decline in immune function, especially the ability of white blood cells to fight bacteria, and disrupt blood flow to the tissue. As a result, infections occur more easily and develop into abscesses, that cause unbearable pain. So non-pharmacological measures are needed suchas deep breathing relaxation. Objective: To determine the effectiveness of deep breathing relaxation therapy for reducing neck abscess pain in DM patients. Method: quantitative type with case study method. The application of assessment, diagnosis, planning, implementation and evaluation as a nursing process. Respondent 1 DM patient with inclusion criteria, namely having an abscess on the back of the neck and being treated for 3x24 hours. Results: At the beginning of the assessment, the patient complained of pain in the back of the neck. After being given deep breathing relaxation for 3 days, the intensity of the pain experienced by the patient decreased from a scale of 6 (moderate) to mild (3). Subjectively, complaints appeared to be reduced and felt more relaxed. The evaluation results show that there appears to be an improvement in condition and there is an increase in relaxation independently and in a structured manner. Conclusion: This therapy is effective in reducing the pain scale in post-op abscess debridement patients in DM patients, especially in post-op abscess debridement patients with DM who require comprehensive care due to the pain they feel.
