Abstract

Stress during pregnancy is a common psychological condition that may negatively affect maternal well-being and pregnancy outcomes. Persistent stress can increase the risk of anxiety, sleep disturbances, emotional instability, and adverse maternal and fetal health outcomes. Therefore, safe and non-pharmacological interventions are needed to help pregnant women manage psychological stress during pregnancy. This study aimed to determine the effectiveness of acupressure wristband therapy in reducing stress levels among third-trimester pregnant women. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The study was conducted at TMPB Bidan Yayat Haryatini and involved 30 third-trimester pregnant women selected through purposive sampling. Stress levels were assessed before and after the intervention using a structured stress questionnaire. Participants were instructed to use an acupressure wristband positioned at the P6 (Nei Guan) acupressure point according to the intervention protocol. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and paired sample t-test analysis at a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the mean pretest stress score was 60.83 ± 3.270, while the mean posttest stress score decreased to 42.43 ± 2.932. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between pretest and posttest stress scores (mean difference = 18.400; t = 202.261; p < 0.001). Participants also reported feeling more relaxed, experiencing reduced anxiety, improved sleep quality, and greater emotional comfort following the intervention. The findings indicate that acupressure wristband therapy is effective in reducing stress levels among third-trimester pregnant women. This study contributes empirical evidence supporting the use of wearable complementary therapies as a practical, safe, and non-pharmacological intervention in maternal healthcare. The results may serve as a basis for integrating acupressure wristband therapy into antenatal care programs to support maternal psychological well-being.

Abstract

Adolescence is a developmental period characterized by significant emotional, psychological, and social changes that may affect mental well-being. Emotional instability during adolescence can lead to stress, anxiety, reduced self-confidence, and difficulties in social adjustment. Therefore, effective and accessible interventions are needed to support emotional health among adolescents. Music therapy has been recognized as a non-pharmacological approach that promotes relaxation, emotional expression, and psychological well-being. This study aimed to determine the effect of music therapy on the emotional status of adolescent girls. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest-posttest design. The research was conducted at SMK Sehati in February 2025 and involved 30 adolescent girls selected through random sampling. Emotional status was assessed using a structured questionnaire administered before and after the music therapy intervention. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, normality testing, and paired sample t-test analysis with a significance level of 0.05. The results showed that the mean emotional status score increased from 32.7 ± 2.4 before the intervention to 49.8 ± 2.6 after the intervention. The normality test indicated that the data were normally distributed. The paired sample t-test revealed a statistically significant difference between pretest and posttest scores (t = 26.842; p < 0.001), indicating that music therapy significantly improved the emotional status of adolescent girls. Participants reported feeling calmer, more relaxed, emotionally stable, and more confident after the intervention. The findings suggest that music therapy can serve as an effective, safe, and practical intervention to support adolescent emotional well-being. The originality of this study lies in its evaluation of music therapy as an emotional regulation strategy among adolescent girls within a school setting using a pretest-posttest approach. The results provide empirical evidence that may support the integration of music-based interventions into school mental health promotion programs.

Abstract

Labor pain is a natural component of childbirth; however, excessive pain may negatively affect maternal physical and psychological well-being. Effective pain management is therefore essential to improve maternal comfort and promote a positive childbirth experience. Essential oil aromatherapy has emerged as a complementary therapy that may reduce pain perception through physiological and psychological relaxation mechanisms. This study aimed to analyze the effectiveness of essential oil aromatherapy in reducing labor pain among women giving birth at Zhafira Zharifa Clinic. This study employed a quantitative approach using a quasi-experimental one-group pretest–posttest design. A total of 30 women undergoing normal labor participated in the study. Labor pain intensity was assessed before and after the administration of essential oil aromatherapy through inhalation. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and a Paired Sample t-Test with a significance level of 0.05. The results revealed that the mean labor pain score decreased from 67.8 before the intervention to 48.6 after the administration of aromatherapy. Statistical analysis demonstrated a significant difference between pretest and posttest pain scores (p = 0.000). These findings indicate that essential oil aromatherapy effectively reduces labor pain among women during childbirth. The reduction in pain intensity may be associated with the stimulation of the limbic system, which promotes relaxation and enhances the release of endorphins and serotonin, thereby decreasing pain perception. The findings suggest that essential oil aromatherapy can be integrated into maternity care as a safe, simple, non-invasive, and cost-effective complementary intervention for labor pain management. The originality of this study lies in its evaluation of aromatherapy effectiveness within a primary healthcare maternity setting using a pretest–posttest approach and direct measurement of labor pain intensity. The study contributes additional empirical evidence supporting the use of complementary therapies in improving maternal comfort during childbirth.
