Abstract

Pangkep Regency is one of the primary hubs with significant potential for the blue swimming crab fishery, a vital commodity for the economy of coastal communities. However, its sustainability is seriously threatened by the use of bubu naga, which are highly unselective fishing gear. This study aims to determine the size distribution of blue swimming crabs caught using bubu naga; assess the percentage of legal and undersized (catchable and uncatchable) crabs; and analyze the impact of bubu naga utilization on the sustainability of blue swimming crab resources. The research was conducted in the waters of Segeri District, Pangkep Regency, from August to December 2025. This study employed a descriptive quantitative approach with a purposive sampling method. The results indicated that the size distribution of crabs caught by bubu naga was dominated by the juvenile group (3.5–6.5 cm) with 151 individuals, followed by the sub-adult group (6.5–11.5 cm) comprising 26, 65, 80, 113, and 60 individuals across their respective size classes, while adult crabs (11.5–13.5 cm) accounted for only 17 individuals. The catch was heavily dominated by uncatchable (undersized) crabs, consisting of 35% juveniles and 64% sub-adults, whereas adult crabs constituted a mere 1%. This composition demonstrates that the selectivity of bubu naga is exceptionally low, and the majority of the crabs are harvested before reaching gonad maturity. The continuous harvesting of juvenile sizes reduces the adult spawning stock, decreases recruitment, and triggers growth overfishing. Ecologically, the depletion of adult crabs disrupts the balance of the coastal ecosystem, as blue swimming crabs play a crucial role as benthic predators. ABSTRAK Kabupaten Pangkep sebagai salah satu sentra yang memiliki potensi besar perikanan rajungan serta merupakan komoditas vital bagi ekonomi masyarakat pesisir. Namun, kelestariannya terancam serius oleh penggunaan bubu naga yang merupakan alat tangkap tidak selektif. Tujuan penelitian ini adalah mengetahui sebaran ukuran rajungan yang tertangkap pada bubu naga; mengetahui persentase hasil rajungan layak dan tidak layak tangkap; dan menganalisis dampak penggunaan bubu naga terhadap keberlanjutan sumberdaya rajungan. Penelitian dilakukan di perairan Kecamatan Segeri, Kabupaten Pangkep pada Agustus-Desember 2025. Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan deskriptif kuantitatif dan metode purposive sampling. Hasil penelitian menunjukan sebaran ukuran rajungan yang tertangkap bubu naga didominasi kelompok juvenil (3,5–6,5 cm) sebanyak 151 ekor; kelompok remaja (6,5–11,5 cm) sebanyak 26 ekor, 65 ekor, 80 ekor, 113 ekor, dan 60 ekor pada kelas ukurannya, sedangkan rajungan dewasa (11,5-13,5 cm) sebanyak 17 ekor. Hasil tangkapan didominasi rajungan tidak layak tangkap, yaitu juvenil 35% dan remaja 64%, sedangkan rajungan dewasa hanya 1%. Komposisi ini menunjukkan selektivitas bubu naga sangat rendah dan mayoritas rajungan tertangkap sebelum mencapai kematangan gonad. Penangkapan ukuran juvenil secara terus-menerus mengurangi stok induk dewasa, menurunkan rekruitmen, serta memicu growth overfishing. Secara ekologis, berkurangnya rajungan dewasa mengganggu keseimbangan ekosistem pesisir karena rajungan berperan penting sebagai predator bentik.
