Abstract

This research aims to describe a scale-based image learning model as an innovative solution for overcoming the cognitive dilemma of elementary school students regarding the shape of the earth, which stems from the contradiction between the scientific fact that the earth is spherical, the literal interpretation of religion, and sensory observation. The method used is modified research and development (RD) with a focus on conceptual comparison through content analysis of scientific literature and translated interpretations of the Qur'an. The research findings show that the conflict can be reconciled through the variable of scale. The earth is spherical at a macro scale and appears flat/an expanse at a micro scale, which is logically consistent with scholars' interpretations regarding the earth's function of being made comfortable. This model, with a syntax emphasizing scale intervention, is proven to have significant validity, contributing to science curriculum innovation by providing a harmonious, critical, and sensitive framework toward religious context and students' experiences
