Abstract

The objective of the study was to analyze the risk factors associated with leptospirosis in patients at the Alhajuela Health Center, Manabí, during the period April-September 2024. A retrospective observational study was carried out in which patients at the health center were surveyed to determine their exposure to possible sources of infection. The results showed that 63% of respondents reported the presence of rodents in their homes, suggesting a high probability of transmission. In addition, it was identified that 55% of respondents had not received the leptospirosis vaccine and 69% considered themselves to be at risk of infection due to the lack of adequate sanitary infrastructure and frequent contact with stagnant water. It was concluded that exposure to animal reservoirs, lack of knowledge about preventive measures, and poor sanitation conditions were determining factors in the transmission of the disease. It is recommended to strengthen prevention and vaccination campaigns in the community, as well as improve pest control and awareness about the importance of personal and environmental hygiene.
