Abstract

The comprehensive health situation of Ayacucho Parish (Santa Ana canton) was described through a territorially focused Health Situation Analysis. A descriptive, cross-sectional, mixed-methods study was carried out using primary household data and secondary public health sources. From April to September 2024, a descriptive, cross-sectional study with a mixed approach was conducted, based on convenience sampling of 25 families (130 individuals), using a 40-item ad hoc questionnaire and descriptive analysis. The population presented a young-adult structure with an older fraction; 36% of households experienced overcrowding; the main water source was the public supply (50.68%), followed by wells and surface sources, and 80% reported boiling water. Thirty-two cases of chronic non-communicable diseases were identified: arterial hypertension accounted for 21, followed by type 2 diabetes mellitus (6) and chronic kidney disease (3). Users reported shortages of supplies and medicines, along with perceived poor treatment. The results highlight the need to strengthen hypertension screening and control, ensure access to essential medicines, and improve practices related to water, sanitation, and waste management in the territory.
