Abstract

Accurate pronunciation is fundamental to the development of oral proficiency, as it directly governs the clarity and comprehensibility of verbal interaction; nevertheless, many EFL learners continue to encounter phonetic hurdles stemming from insufficient practice, a lack of corrective feedback, and interference from their native language. While existing scholarship has widely acknowledged the advantages of Mobile-Assisted Language Learning (MALL), most studies remain centered on broad language acquisition, leaving a gap in understanding how specific applications are utilized to resolve pronunciation challenges within localized educational settings. Consequently, this study examines the integration of the CAKE application in English pronunciation instruction and its role in mitigating students' speech difficulties at MA Mirqotul Ulum through a descriptive qualitative framework. Involving an English instructor and their students, data were gathered via classroom observations, semi-structured interviews, phonetic assessments, and documentation, then processed through an interactive model of data analysis. The findings demonstrate that CAKE fosters a self-directed learning environment through its speech recognition and 'Listen and Repeat' functionalities, which offer instantaneous evaluation and lead to observable progress in both segmental and suprasegmental elements, alongside bolstered student motivation and confidence. Ultimately, this research underscores the practical utility of mobile based interventions in pronunciation pedagogy and enriches the discourse on MALL by providing empirical evidence of a specialized application’s efficacy in an EFL context.

Abstract

: This article examines the comparison of inflectional morphology systems between the Indonesian language and the English language, aiming to identify structural and functional differences in the formation of grammatical meaning in verbs and nouns. The study employs a documentary research method by collecting data from Indonesian and English language corpora. The data are analyzed using a descriptive-comparative approach based on structural morphology theory and language typology. The findings reveal that English has a productive and complex inflectional system in which word forms change obligatorily to indicate tense, person, and number. In contrast, Indonesian is primarily analytic and does not formally employ inflection. Instead, it relies on contextual information, auxiliary words, and other morphological processes such as reduplication to convey similar grammatical meanings. The discussion highlights that these differences reflect the fundamental typological characteristics of both languages. Furthermore, they influence sentence structure, meaning-making strategies, and practical applications in language learning and translation. English speakers must pay close attention to grammatical markers embedded in word forms, whereas Indonesian speakers depend more heavily on syntactic context and lexical cues. These distinctions also create challenges for second-language learners, particularly when transferring grammatical patterns from one language to another. The study concludes by emphasizing the importance of understanding cross-morphological structures in linguistic research as well as in intercultural language applications, especially for improving comparative linguistic analysis, effective language pedagogy, accurate translation practices, and broader cross-cultural communication in multilingual contexts.

Abstract

English is a global language that dominates various aspects of life, including science, information technology, education, politics, economics, and culture. However, many students in Indonesia, from elementary school to college, struggle with English proficiency despite years of study. This issue stems from a lack of practical application in learning English, where the language is often treated as a theoretical subject rather than a practical skill. This study aims to identify solutions to these challenges in English language learning through a literature review of relevant sources, including e-journals, e-books, articles, and academic journals. The findings suggest that effective English learning should emphasize practice and active engagement, particularly through trial and error, to help students build confidence and improve their skills. Key solutions include encouraging students to practice speaking, listening, reading, and writing regularly, and integrating English into daily activities, such as listening to English songs or reading English books. Confidence-building is identified as crucial for improving English language skills.
