Abstract

Kepok banana peel is an agricultural waste that has the potential to be utilized as a source of natural antibacterial compounds. This study aimed to determine the antibacterial activity of kepok banana peel extract. The research was conducted as an experimental laboratory study to evaluate the antibacterial activity of 96% ethanol extract of kepok banana peel against Staphylococcus aureus. The study design included the preparation of simplicia, extraction, phytochemical screening, preparation of test solutions, and antibacterial activity testing using the agar well diffusion method with extract concentrations of 20%, 40%, 60%, 80%, and 100%, each performed in triplicate. Phytochemical screening data were analyzed using descriptive quantitative methods, while antibacterial activity data were analyzed using one-way ANOVA. The results demonstrated that kepok banana peel extract was able to inhibit the growth of Staphylococcus aureus. The inhibition zone diameters at concentrations of 20%, 40%, and 60% were 2.96 mm, 4.46 mm, and 4.70 mm, respectively (weak category), whereas at concentrations of 80% and 100% the inhibition zones were 5.11 mm and 5.58 mm, respectively (moderate category). Statistical analysis indicated a significant effect of treatment on inhibition zone formation (p<0.05). These findings suggest a concentration-dependent inhibitory response of Staphylococcus aureus to the extract. Keywords - Antibacterial Activity, Kepok Banana Peel, Phytochemical Screening.
