Abstract

ABSTRACT Bullying in schools remains a serious issue in education as it negatively affects students’ psychological, social, and academic development. Meanwhile, literacy education is considered an important strategy for developing critical thinking skills, empathy, and ethical digital and social behavior in the modern era. This study aims to explore the role of literacy education in preventing and addressing bullying in schools through a library research approach. Data were collected from various scientific literature and analyzed using a qualitative descriptive method. The findings indicate that bullying consists of six main forms, namely physical, verbal, social, psychological, indirect, and cyberbullying, which are interconnected in school environments. The causes of bullying are multidimensional, involving individual characteristics, family background, peer influence, school environment, and digital media exposure. Bullying also produces significant impacts on psychological well-being, academic performance, and social relationships of students. Furthermore, literacy education plays a strategic role in bullying prevention through basic literacy, digital literacy, media literacy, cultural literacy, and school-based literacy. Among these, digital literacy is the most dominant factor in preventing cyberbullying. Therefore, literacy functions not only as an academic skill but also as a preventive instrument in creating a safe, inclusive, and violence-free educational environment. ABSTRAK Isu bullying di sekolah masih menjadi persoalan serius dalam dunia pendidikan karena berdampak pada aspek psikologis, sosial, dan akademik siswa. Di sisi lain, pendidikan literasi dipandang sebagai strategi penting dalam membentuk kemampuan berpikir kritis, empati, serta etika sosial dan digital peserta didik di era modern. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengeksplorasi peran pendidikan literasi dalam mencegah dan menanggulangi bullying di sekolah melalui studi kepustakaan (library research). Data penelitian diperoleh dari berbagai literatur ilmiah yang dianalisis secara deskriptif-kualitatif. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa bullying memiliki enam bentuk utama, yaitu fisik, verbal, sosial, mental/psikologis, tidak langsung, dan cyberbullying yang saling berkaitan dalam praktiknya. Faktor penyebab bullying bersifat multidimensional yang meliputi individu, keluarga, teman sebaya, sekolah, serta media digital. Dampak bullying mencakup aspek psikologis, akademik, dan sosial yang merugikan perkembangan siswa. Selain itu, pendidikan literasi berperan strategis dalam pencegahan bullying melalui literasi dasar, digital, media, budaya, dan sekolah. Literasi digital menjadi aspek paling dominan dalam mencegah cyberbullying. Dengan demikian, literasi tidak hanya bersifat akademik tetapi juga preventif dalam menciptakan lingkungan pendidikan yang aman, inklusif, dan bebas kekerasan. Â
