Abstract

This article aims to examine the contribution of Islamic organizations in Indonesia in shaping and developing moderate Islamic thought during the New Order era. The focus of the study is directed at the role of Islamic organizations in maintaining a balance between Islamic values, national life, and socio-political stability amidst the government’s strong control during that period. This article employs a literature review method by examining various sources, including books, scientific journals, research articles, and historical documents related to the development of Islamic organizations and moderate Islamic thought during the New Order era. The findings indicate that (1) Islamic organizations played a crucial role in shaping moderate Islamic thought through education, da’wah, promoting tolerance, and accepting Pancasila as the state ideology, and (2) Islamic organizations also contributed to maintaining social stability and national life by mitigating the spread of extremist and confrontational religious ideologies through a moderate and dialogical approach to da’wah. The novelty of this article lies in its analysis, which positions Islamic organizations not only as religious forces but also as social actors capable of adapting to the political pressures of the New Order while maintaining the values of Islamic moderation in Indonesian society.

Abstract

Kalimantan is a region rich in cultural heritage and traditions, lived out by multi-ethnic communities such as the Dayak, Banjar, Kutai, and Malay. Local wisdom and customs play a crucial role in regulating social and spiritual life, as well as fostering a harmonious relationship between humans and nature. Values such as mutual cooperation, respect for nature, customary law, and religious and social rituals form the foundation of the cultural identity of the people of Kalimantan. However, modernization, globalization, and the exploitation of natural resources present serious challenges to the preservation of these traditions. Therefore, preservation efforts through education, cultural documentation, and strengthening the role of indigenous communities are crucial to maintaining the sustainability of Kalimantan's cultural heritage as part of Indonesia's national cultural heritage.
